Base Camp is home base for sure

Pros: Easy to use and communicate with people all over the world in all formats. Chronological in design and history availability.

Cons: Can be a little clunky but once you understand how to use it, it is pretty simple.

Fantastic tool for project management!

Pros: Basecamp is super easy to use! I used Basecamp to remotely project manage over 200 events over the course of a year that had many of the same recurring tasks. I particularly liked the following:

1.) I could create templates for each of the different types of projects that I managed. This saved a ton of time when setting up an "event" in Basecamp as I didn't have to create the same tasks over and over for each type of project that I was managing.

2.) It's a great tool for communicating and coordinating with other team members involved in the project. You can assign dates and tasks to other individuals and Basecamp will sent them reminders as tasks need to be completed.

3.) You can keep all your notes and correspond with team members within each project that you set up. This is great when your working with people that work in other locations and other time zones. Basecamp allows you to upload important documents and communicate about the progress of each project.

Cons: I can't really think of anything I didn't like about Basecamp.

Overall: I don't know how I would have done my job as Project Manager remotely planning so many events across the United States and in other countries without using Basecamp. This tool allowed me to succeed as an employee, allowed me to plan future tasks while also prioritizing which tasks needed my time and attention now and which I could table for later. By staying organized we were able to provide our customers with the type of service and event that they deserved. Thanks Basecamp!

We didn't use it for very long

Pros: Basecamp was great for collaboration on projects with external companies.

Cons: The pricing of the product was not clear to us. So, we didn't think to continue with it.

Remote team project management dream!

Pros: Love that team members all over the country can share documents, deadlines, schedules, and messages.

Cons: Wish there was a calendar that charted ALL of the projects, not just the one project it "sits" inside. In other words, each project would have a calendar, but then there is a master calendar that gives you at-a-glance oversight of all of our projects. We are having to use a Gantt chart outside Basecamp to accomplish this.

Overall: Took me awhile to get used to/decide on how best to use pings, messages, and project folders, but our team has landed on a good system and we like it a lot!

What a great app!

Pros: So easy and intuitive for sharing meeting times, agendas, meeting materials in different media.

Cons: Not the softwares fault, but the frequency of new posts was distracting. Too many group members sending too many updates!

Overall: This was a really valuable tool for planning and executing an offsite retreat for participants from all over the country. Easy to share schedules and even coordinate travel plans.

A little confusing to use

Pros: We used basecamp for my student government org in grad school. The ability to see who has worked on what was great to help hold people accountable for their projects. it is nice that it combines the features of slack and email all under one roof!

Cons: While the ability to organize stuff is nice, and adding new group members is easy, we ultimately found it to simpler (and cheaper) to use google groups, and the suite of google cloud software to collaborate on ideas. There are cheaper ways to accomplishing what basecamp does if you are willing to put in a tad bit of effort. Communication on it was ok, but still people ended up just falling back on google because of its familiarity.

ASK A QUESTION

How does Basecamp scale for large project groups?

K
Answered by Kuber Jayaraman | 9 months ago

I think it works pretty well for large organizations as of its customizability. If you want to track multiple issues for multiple users, Basecamp is well worth the effort to set up because it facilitates you with reliable search and the ability to track thousands of tasks/ variables/ dates/ deadlines at once.
