Stoplight

Holistic API Toolkit for Development Teams
(81 Ratings) Write Review

Stoplight is an API Design, Docs, Mocking, and Testing tool that uses OpenAPI documents to aid the API development process. With the help of a visual and collaborative editor, developers can manage OpenAPI (Swagger) with 10x faster turnaround time. Consistent and standardized REST APIs can be driven for organizations without writing any code. Developers also receive the benefit of integrated and hosted mock servers that are powered by Prism. The Hosted API Documentation feature also enables users to create beautiful, customizable, and interactive API documentation within minutes. Customers can refer to test requests within the documentation to understand how the API of the user works. The documentation can even be customized with Themes, Custom CSS, Pages, Domains, and Versioning. And with the OpenAPI Testing, users can build web APIs with customized tests based on the API contracts. The OpenAPI Mocking feature allows the routing of incoming requests to example responses.

"Best way to document and test an API yet."

What do you like best?

Stoplight provides a clean user interface and enables an engineering team to develop a compliant API with minimal difficulty. Other tools don't provide the same details, guard rails, and error validation that Stoplight provides. I can feel that Stoplight is made by API developers for API developers as opposed to either an experienced PM fresh out of college, or a hyper-detailed API wonk for whom working in the flat file itself would be more ideal.

What do you dislike?

The migration from Stoplight Classic to Next has a few bumps but their model for how APIs should be used, and the thought leadership they provide more than makes up for it.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Stoplight for API Documentation creation and hosting. Before this, all our API documentation was handwritten on a wiki platform. Stoplight allowed us to adopt a clear JSON Schema, as well as conforming to the Open API Standard. Standardized documentation has significantly reduced the number of requests from customers, allowing the API team to focus on improving the platform.

Stoplight also in some ways is a sales platform. When customers see that our API is clean and well documented it reduces barriers to closing a sale.

"On system analysis using stolight"

What do you like best?

The organization of endpoints and models, as well as the online documentation.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes I get confused trying to find a model that I mistenkenly saved on shared objects. There could be a confirm message before this kind of action (something like: do you really want to share this model?

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've working with web api applications and Stoplight has helped a lot when documenting and validating endpoints.

"Start documentation here."

What do you like best?

You can design and test against the stoplight mock platform while changing the responses per web-service

What do you dislike?

If I really need to complain, Sometimes hard to find the mocking endpoint (UI

Recommendations to others considering the product:

a cleaner way of automating test cases after a deployment.

Yes this is extremely vague. I want to deploy a service and make sure this service's endpoints works as per the documentation.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are much more agile.

- Developers starts with designing endpoints on stoplight, then start development.

- DevOps starts building the config and integration against the stoplight mock endpoints. Going live is simply swapping endpoints from stoplight to production.

Very little documentation is necessary afterwards if the endpoints are done right.

What do you dislike?

there have been too many new versions.

Personally - i still use app.stoplight.io - because i couldn't get comfortable with the new user interface.

UI is bit un intuitive - can be worked upon better.

A quick tutorial on the homepage would work wonders

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Strong dev evangelism needs to happen at Stoplight side. This product needs to be heard more.

"Comprehensive tool to manage and share your API collections"

What do you like best?

Published documentation sites are a great feature to allow us to collaborate with out clients on API usage.

What do you dislike?

Some aspects of the tool user interface and usability

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Definitely give this product a try. It's way more that Postman, and allows comprehensive management and testing of your API projects.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ability to properly document several collections of APIs with robust content with a secure website publish option to expose API's for our clients. We benefit from offering our clients ability understand, try and eventually leverage our API's in a clean web-bashed professional fashion.

"Ease of documentation on StopLight"

What do you like best?

Awesome UI/UX when creating new documentation on StopLight. Very easy to learn the tool and you can master it within a week or two. I liked the run on the go UI for any API call.

What do you dislike?

I felt that the tool is lacking a feature of applying a particular Security/ Path parameters to multiple requests at once like you can select multiple requests at once to feed the values of Security/ Path parameters using point and click.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Awesome tool to create your technical documentation

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating the API documentation for all the API requests to my company's Website

"Best tool for api schema"

What do you like best?

Schema editor with model references is very useful tool to quickly build and modify path definitions. Also it is possible to share public documentation based on scheme.

What do you dislike?

No support for OAS 3. No possibility to add custom lint rules.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try to use it for free. Organizations are good way to group your projects.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

OAS is main source of truth for the communication protocol between backend and fronted. It is very easy to generate helper libraries from schema and use them in all projects.

"Lots of great integrations and common ground for API building"

What do you like best?

I like that stoplight supports importing my API via swagger. It makes the early integration with the tool approachable. I also enjoy that the UI helps ensure I think of all parts of building a new endpoint and even provides tooling around mocking.

What do you dislike?

At times it can feel a bit overwhelming. If there was a basics UI, then it could rapidly prototype?

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are trying to improve communications throughout the organization about API standards and documentation. We have built an API approval process using Stoplight.
