MariaDB is an enterprise-level database solution that helps companies to store their data, besides providing them tools to manage it efficiently. It is a powerful platform that supports transactional, analytical and hybrid workloads along with relational, JSON and hybrid data models. The solution can execute millions of transactions per second and perform interactive, ad hoc analytics on billions of rows. MariaDB comes with an Enterprise Server that helps companies to secure applications in a reliable and scalable way. With MariaDB MaxScale, users get access to advanced data protection facilities in the form of a database firewall and dynamic data masking, high availability with dynamic query routing. ColumnStore adds interactive, ad hoc analytics with columnar storage and parallel processing that transform its Enterprise server into a data warehouse or hybrid database. For applications requiring scalable transaction processing, it brings Xpand, which is a distributed SQL database. It can be used separately or with Enterprise Server.

(Reviewed on 24 April 2020) "MariaDB is a completely free version of MySQL. Fast and easy to use"

What do you like best?

What I like most about MariaDB is its similarity to MySQL, so if you previously worked with MySQL managing databases with MariaDB will be a simple task. Another feature that I like is that it is totally free. I also like the fact that migration can be carried out without inconvenience.

What do you dislike?

MariaDB is completely free and has an easy to manage GUI. Also, it shares the same source code as MySQL, so I don't have any negative comments about this software.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

MariaDB is fast and completely free. In my opinion, it is an improved version of MySQL. Also, migration can be carried out easily. I recommend MariaDB.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am currently using MariaDB in multiple development environments to run tests on different apps. Also, I have migrated various databases from MySQL to MariaDB easily and cleanly.

What do you like best?

It's free and open source so I don't have to worry about licenses or legal troubles for me or my company when I build a java app with this database integrated as a data backend. It's 99% like MySQL except for little details and that is not owned by Oracle.

What do you dislike?

It's 99% like MySQL but that little 1% sometimes causes compatibility issues when migrating from MySQL to MariaDB.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Migrating from MySQL is easy in almost all instances and it's worth it 100% of the time

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Bundling the server side of the applications I build with MariaDB is an easy and safe way to make sure everything will work as intended.
