Open Source, MySQL Compatibility, Fast Performance, Ease of Use
Limited Scalability, Replication Issues, UI/UX, Limited Enterprise Support
Reviewers commend MariaDB for its impressive performance, scalability, and reliability. They appreciate its ease of use, even for those with limited technical expertise. The open-source nature of MariaDB is also a major advantage, allowing users to customize and extend the software to fit their specific needs. Additionally, MariaDB's compatibility with MySQL makes it an attractive option for businesses looking to migrate away from proprietary databases. While some users have reported occasional issues with stability and customer support, the overall sentiment towards MariaDB is overwhelmingly positive.

There are hundreds of costs involved when starting a business. You can only pay for a few and use the rest for core business ops. MariaDB is an open-source database used by many big organizations. It is built by devs of MySQL and runs just like it. Setting it up (for example - on AWS, MariaDB is the default database engine), operating it, and finding developers to work on it are easy and cost-effective.
MariaDB has almost everything plus extra features when compared with MySQL. I don't have anything I dislike.
First, consider if you are looking for a relational database or NoSQL. If you are looking for a relational database, MariaDB is the best choice right now. It integrates with almost all frameworks and doesn't add business expense.
MariaDB makes integration with software projects easy. Being open-source it is free and saves the additional business cost of purchasing and managing licenses.
When you need a quick relational DB, open source MariaDB is there for you.
Fewer cloud providers offer this as an engine.
You should first choose an engine supported by your cloud provider of choice. If MariaDB is not an option, choose MySQL, but for any local development go ahead and install MariaDB.
Relational databases are enablers of many different kinds of business applications. By switching to MariaDB over MySQL, we got out from under Oracle's grasp without changing any application logic.
