Cypress.io

Testing got more easy, fast and reliable
(100 Ratings) Write Review

Cypress.io is an automatic testing tool that enables its users to test a browser more efficiently and reliably. The software works on any front end framework or website and focuses on doing end-to-end testing. Users can debug directly from familiar tools such as Chrome DevTools as readable errors, and stack traces of the software makes debugging very fast. Cypress.io takes snapshots as the tests run, enabling the user to simply hover over commands in the command log to track and analyze what happened at each step. The software automatically reloads whenever changes are made to the test. Moreover, one can watch how the commands are executed in real-time through this app. It eliminates the user’s need to add wait times or sleeps to the tests as the software automatically waits for commands and assertions before moving on. Users can verify and control the behavior of functions, server responses, or timers. The architecture of the software does not use Selenium or WebDriver and provides its users with consistent, fast, and reliable tests that are flake-free.

"Outstanding E2E Testing Framework"

What do you like best?

Cypress is incredibly easy to set up and has everything you need in order to get started on your testing right out of the box. I have not run into a testing scenario that Cypress has not been able to solve from functionality all the way down to performance. Cypress also offers parallelization which has been great for reducing CI build times, which is a huge bonus. Overall Cypress has made testing less of a hassle than any other framework I've used thus far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It would be nice to have testing life cycle hooks for async tasks such as clearing a database with the built-in ability to wait for the async tasks to complete. It would also be great to have built-in tools for working with file uploads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Take advantage of custom commands! Your own custom ones along with the many on GitHub. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Cypress to test my apps from the user's perspective and from as many different angles as possible. This allows me to confidently make changes to my app without feeling as though I've introduced bugs in various places within the app. It has also allowed me to spot visual bugs that I would have never noticed due to the Cypress runner's visual UI. "Powerful end to end testing tool"

What do you like best?

The ability to stub the network request and clean APIs. The documentation is easy with best practices & anti-pattern warnings Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There is no way to rerun only failed tests and UI takes some time to load the tests before running them Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Cypress, we are able to write end to end tests for an Angular project very quickly and we are much more confident on our new releases ever than before Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

- easy to write

- easy to understand

- easy to debug

- covers chrome, and nowadays other browsers. But very much sufficient for developers to move ahead with the release Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

- sometimes tests are flaky, and we need to retry. Handled this case by configuring .travis to retry on failure. No everyone is happy, when build is happy Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

- easy to write

"Cypress provides great developer experience and reliability. It's awesome!"

What do you like best?

Superb developer experience! Very easy to write tests and I think using Cypress with @testing-library/cypress creates the best experience! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I consider myself a beginner Cypress user, I haven't encountered downsides so far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cypress makes me happy!"

What do you like best?

So many of the issues and gripes that I have had with Selenium based testing over the years are addressed in Cypress. The default setup is a great start and customization is intuitive and easy to implement. The documentation is some of the best I have ever seen. And the UI makes it easier to reason with test writing and debugging.

I spent 4+ years away from web (testing mobile apps), and it was so refreshing to come back to web testing and see that I will never need to use Selenium again! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

When something goes wrong at the Cypress level, it can still sometimes be hard to figure out what has happened. With a quick search, I can usually find a workaround or solution in Github issues given how responsive the team is there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Read the documentation. Give Cypress a try. Check out their example recipes and real world app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a full time SDET, I'm testing an enterprise B2B app written in Ember. I don't like Ember apps, but Cypress makes the experience so much better despite Ember's magic and bloat. Not only does Cypress make my life easier and tests more reliable, it also makes it easier for feature developers to contribute to the tests. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best Automation Tool out there. It's here to stay."

What do you like best?

Cypress makes testing easier and fun. As it's directly embedded in to the browser web testing can be supported with checking for network calls. No other tool provides this feature.

Documentation is super clear and helpful. There's not topic of cypress for which the documentation doesn't exists.

The best part is test runnner. It makes running and debugging cypress tests convenient.

Cypress Community is helpful and growing. Be it linkedIn group or individual slack communities. People are always willing to share the information about cypress.

Cypress is quite modern in terms of running in the CI pipelines or running as a docker container. There are already docker images present on docker hub where you can run your entire test suite with one command.

They recently came out with an awesome feature of slack integration which makes it easier to know the tests runs status without having to navigate to CI/CD pipelines.

The feature that wins and makes cypress the best tool in the market is cypress dashboard. It has all the information about the test runs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There should be a slack community where we can ask questions/doubts related to cypress. Individual communities do exists and there's also a forum but slack would be cool. I might be wrong and a community might exist already. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Automate the testing which was done manually.

e2e testing is quite easy as you can make API calls, web and also listen to network calls.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cypress review"

What do you like best?

Cypress provides great DX and increase the confidence for shipping new features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I can't think of anything specific which I dislike, I really think it is a great tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you are wondering to use Cypress or not, don't. Just give it a try and you will how awesome it is. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using it in combination with Cucumber for integration testing against mock server. This is helping the business as well because they can write the acceptance criteria of a ticket in similar manner.

The idea is to have complete E2E tests and run against real server and environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Really great tool for E2E testing"

What do you like best?

Easy setup with the different browser and CI, easy async testing of components Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Nothing. Probably sometimes the tests doesn't reload correctly, and we need to re-open the Cypress UI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed to add E2E testing to our applications. We previously tried to setup other tools but the setup was long and writing tests took too much time. The environment and tools provided by Cypress make writing E2E tests easier for our team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Move fast - Don't break things"

What do you like best?

Low barrier to entry. Test syntax is easy to read. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Doesn't currently support IE or Safari. Although the addition of FireFox support in v4 is a great step in the right direction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Better integration with Azure Active Directory & MSAL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Before cypress we only had Unit & E2E test suites. This meant we had a disproportionally high number of E2E tests without the confidence that everything was working as expected. Since integrating Cypress into our application we're growing in confidence that our applications manage all scenarios effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
