"Akamai is the Leader in caching and serving websites"

Caching our web properties to make them available to the public en mass.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes hard to learn the new Property Manager over the Config Manager.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Still the leader in providing caching for web properties.

"CDN with a Reputation"

What do you like best?

Akamai is a trusted name in content delivery, and well known for their other products. Using their CDN services just feels good. Of course, it does not disappoint. Their UI is intuitive, and easy to use in general.

What do you dislike?

The UI seems a little outdated in terms of styling. Even with a solid product, they can't hang in terms of UI design with Cloudflare and the like.

Recommendations to others considering the product

USE THEIR OTHER PRODUCTS. They integrate seamlessly, so why not?

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CDN services! It's nice to use Akamai if you also want performance monitoring and the like..

"Akamai Review(current customer0"

What do you like best?

Global server presence. Reduces latency.

Used for downloads so downloads are expected to be from the closes local server.

What do you dislike?

Kind of expensive to use. The variable pricing model is not conducive to our business. Would prefer to have fixed costs for unlimited use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

1. Distributing apps globally in the fasted and most relevant way possible.

2. We have benefited from Akamai's uptime promise and download speeds, even under the most demanding conditions,

"Solid and Robust offering"

What do you like best?

My favorite product in their suite is the Property Manager, which is the latest version of their configuration management portal for managing edge caching configurations. In previous versions of the Luna Control panel, many options were not exposed to end users and required working with customer care to get them added to the configuration. In property manager you can control and tune hundreds of settings, its very rare we have needed to loop in ccare for config changes. As a caching solution in front of an S3 or ec2 origin, cloudfront has maybe 20% of the options compared to Akamai.

What do you dislike?

When you do need to loop in professional services/advanced consulting, it is not cheap. Configurations can also take quite awhile to propagate (2-4 hours. API availability has been very poor thus far, we would love to automate generating configurations, and i believe there are initiatives around releasing these API's to public soon, it has just been slow to come (we've been asking for a couple years.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Hopefully you are able to understand your expected traffic at Akamai's edge, so you can negotiate the best price/GB based on what tier you land in.

"Akamai is probably the best head to toe software/solution available"

What do you like best?

No shortage of services or programs offered. Akamai can truly deliver a customizable experience for everyone, business and individuals alike. For e-commerce sites I highly recommend it as they are able to deliver what I haven't really seen from any other vendors.

What do you dislike?

Our support wait times were a little longer than they were from other smaller vendors, but I suspect that's because the level of investment we had with Akamai was smaller than usual. For what we paid though I would still say that it was a good value.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I have only used this in an e-commerce perspective but I would say that Akamai is really great. The client I was working with especially had trouble with their mobile e commerce site (which if you've ever worked on one, it's a pretty big pain to go from desktop to mobile. Akamai had a whole suits of services offered tailored specifically to mobile which, for my client, was a boon. Their mobile site was slow and clunky and Akamai was able to optimize everything so that we were running much quicker with lower latency. The impressiveness was in how quickly and easily we were able to simplify the scale. If we were to pay an individual to do it for us it would've taken a long time and we would've lost out on potential revenue in the down time. Akamai in that sense paid for itself pretty quickly in terms of non-lost investment.

"Akamai - Trustworthy for avoiding attacks and caching"

What do you like best?

For high traffic sites you want your pages to be cached. Akamai does a good job at that. Also they do great at protecting your site against any attack like DDoS or phishing attack.

Recently launched feature of fast purge is nice as it purges lage under 5 seconds

What do you dislike?

Sometimes purging pages don’t go through. It very rarely happens but that’s the only thing I noticed.

The UI of the site can use some clean up as well.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It’s a good service. In a way money well spent

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Here are few -

1. Site is protected against various attacks

2. Pages pull up fast and we have great uptime as they are cached

3. Lot of data monitoring is possible

What do you like best?

good at configuration on what need to cache and more training material, It has all the configuration history and easily to rollback and re-configuration

What do you dislike?

Haven't found how much time will take when clear the cache one time

Recommendations to others considering the product

more configuration and training materials online; The GUI is easy to use;

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

cache all the static file used in program, such as images/css/js/html; It's really fast for the web access performance for a global web site

"Best Tool to keep your CDN Up and Running"

What do you like best?

Provides a great insight on how your data is consumed. Provides your Commerce application a personalized and optimized experience to the customers. They are the best in business with exceptional service. Provides tools that can overcome mobile application performance. And, its quite easy to set it up.

What do you dislike?

They are not cheap; especially if you want to consult with them. And, some of their services require quite a good technical person.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for a CDN management tool that has reporting features, Akamai is a great tool. It provides a great set of tools for mobile experience which is where eCommerce is heading to. You will easily claim the fee with a much more stable/optimized application.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using it on the eCommerce platform which can provide a customizable and optimized experience to customers using both Desktop and mobile platform. It helped us get an insight of the customer base that accesses various categories/pages at different times.

"its ok"

What do you like best?

Very powerful, offers a lot of services. I used it mainly for video livestreaming. I think at the time it was one, if not the only one, offering HLS.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the amount of services can be a little overwhelming. It requires a very technical person to setup.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You must research their suite of services to see how to best utilize them given your content infrastructure.

What do you like best?

1 Provided strong technical services

2 Solid technical account management and staff

3 Solid account management

4 Strong partnership orientation

What do you dislike?

1 Changing players on account

2 Thought some costs were on premium end

Recommendations to others considering the product

ensure that you have a strong technical account contact and that you have a strong team. Suggest visiting with Akamai leadership to outline goals/objectives to gain executive support.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
