HackMD is a collaborative markdown platform that operates in real time across several platforms to enable you to collaborate on project documentation with markdown. It allows you to collaborate on notes with others on your cell phone, tablet, or PC. With HackMD, you can organize tribal knowledge and capture transitory thoughts. You can use the team workstation for a bird's-eye assessment of all crew documents and everyone is kept up to date with the latest changes with the change notification system. With HackMD’s granular note authorization settings, you get complete control over how and with whom you share your notes. You can manage documentation using the Git process, which allows you to decentralize editing and storage while keeping the final papers centralized. You can access your notes and export them with a single click using a browser plugin that is activated by a hotkey. You can write scientific formulas in plain text and create UML diagrams in SVG in one tool. Additionally, you can create a group of similar papers, divide them into chapters, and distribute them all at once.

ForgeMD is an AI-powered collaborative content creation platform where WYSIWYG and Markdown work as two live views of the same document — edit in either pane and both stay synchronized instantly. Built by Synami, a team with 20+ years in software and 6M+ users worldwide, ForgeMD serves developers, technical writers, and product teams who want the portability of plain-text Markdown with the accessibility of rich-text editing. Teams co-edit documents in real time with live cursors, inline comments, tracked changes, and role-based permissions across desktop, web, and mobile. The editor supports GFM tables, task lists, footnotes, math notation, frontmatter, and Mermaid/UML diagrams that render live as you type. ForgeMD is local-first: documents are cached on-device with encrypted storage, keep full functionality offline, and sync conflict-free when you reconnect. Bring your own AI — connect multiple providers to draft, enhance, and generate diagrams inside the document, or switch AI off entirely. Export to PDF, HTML, DOCX, LaTeX, EPUB, and ODT, with extended formats via Pandoc integration. Plans start at $8–12 per user/month with a 5-day free trial, no credit card required.
