Write a Review

Review Summary

Sanity is a highly customizable and user-friendly headless CMS that excels at managing structured content and integrating with modern frameworks like React and Next.js. Users praise its flexibility, speed, and real-time collaboration features, but some point out a learning curve, particularly for complex functionalities. Its strength lies in providing a powerful back-end solution for content management, freeing developers to focus on front-end development and empowering content creators to easily publish and update content, ultimately leading to faster development times and improved user experiences.

Pros

  • Sanity provides a flexible and customizable content management system.
  • The intuitive interface makes it easy for nontechnical users to create and manage content.
  • Sanity integrates seamlessly with modern web frameworks like Gatsby and Next.js.

Cons

  • The learning curve can be steep for new users, especially for advanced features.
  • The lack of robust, outofthebox features for certain tasks, such as image cropping, may require custom plugin development.
  • The Studio UI can be slow when dealing with large datasets or multiple editors.

Sanity looks simple, feels simple, but it's efficient, complete, powerful and more!
What do you like best about Sanity?I like the simplicity of the UI but the power of configuring it precisely with versioned files. I like its built-in images CDN with its unique focus-crop feature. But also, it's one of the very few CMS that has a built-in responsive Web UI! And it's now a close partner of Vercel's Next.js, which makes it a great choice for a Next.js headless CMS.What do you dislike about Sanity? There isn't much that I don't like about it!What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?I needed a tailor-made CMS without having to code, deploy and maintain a full Web app. This UI needed to be responsive, fast yet customizable. Also, we needed an imaging system allowing us to resize/crop with a nice UI and a cheap CDN.

Sanity as the modern CMS
What do you like best about Sanity?I used sanity at work as a CMS for one of the e-commerce projects and also for my personal projects. I loved how I could structure the data according to the project needs and also it was pretty easy to implement and integrate. Besides that, the real-time collaboration feature stood out, allowing me to monitor live changes to data and contributors. I will always go with sanity first if I need a CMS for my projectsWhat do you dislike about Sanity?GROQ, the query language used by Sanity, can be complex initially. Also, Sanity does not provide different environments, such as production and staging, which can lead to issues, potentially resulting in unintended alterations to production datasets. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?At work, we required a CMS for a significant e-commerce website and were in the process of deciding between Contentful and Sanity. We went with Sanity and was a good decision we made. We successfully added all our products into Sanity, tailoring their structure precisely to our requirements by defining their schema. Additionally, utilizing GROQ for data retrieval proved immensely beneficial, enabling efficient filtering and sorting of the data response. It has made the website fast and easy for our clients to add their products on Sanity.

Simple yet very powerful CMS
What do you like best about Sanity?more features and flexibility to end user have increased which is a great helpWhat do you dislike about Sanity?Better AI integration, there is minimal AI integration which is not good enoughWhat problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?Being a Computer Science student myself I feel a portfolio to showcase an individual's skill is important and doing so using a portfolio is the best way. But one headache is always updating the content on the portfolio for regular websites but using Sanity as your CMS reduces all the clutter and saves valuable time.

Now Supercharged with AI Assist and Visual Editing
What do you like best about Sanity?Sanity is easily the most structured, flexible, and well-documented content model out there. Workflows are streamlined while keeping updates under control, and the customizable React-based Studio makes it perfect for modern stacks like Vercel. Recently, the introduction of Sanity AI Assist has been a massive upgrade. Unlike bolted-on AI, it is schema-aware and runs directly inside the Studio as a set of field-aware helpers. It can rewrite blocks, summarize text, or translate localized fields while perfectly respecting the content's structure. Additionally, the Presentation tool with click-to-edit visual previews has made the editorial experience significantly smoother for non-technical team members. What do you dislike about Sanity?Sanity is incredibly powerful but still has a steep learning curve if you are unfamiliar with GROQ or GraphQL. Pricing can also become a concern for heavy usage, high API volumes, or larger teams. Once it's set up, it's amazing, but the initial configuration requires significant developer effort compared to traditional, out-of-the-box CMS solutions. For instance, wiring up live visual previews to the front-end or building custom workflow states still requires custom coding rather than simple no-code toggles. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?Sanity solves the problem of having unflexible CMS structures by providing a fully customizable, API-first approach to content management. On my team I've seen improved collaboration, faster development times and it has helped us build more dynamic, scalable solutions while improving efficiency across teams. Unmatched Structured Content.

Most comprehensive and customisable solution in the headless CMS space
What do you like best about Sanity?Custom service has been excellent. Our account manager never fails to follow up with us about the latest new features that have launched, and their engineering team has been great about integrating AI workflows into an ever-accelerating tech world. What do you dislike about Sanity?Reduce learning curve for some of the more template-y features like setting up GROQ queries. Their learning resources are good, but it requires a lot from the user's end. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?Sanity enables our clients and internal non-technical team members to create and update content. It also provides a fleshed-out framework to help create bespoke solutions for our end users.

Keeping my sanity with SanityCMS
What do you like best about Sanity?Sanity is keeping up with AI updates and listening to their customers with new updates, better UI and improved workflows. Very happy. What do you dislike about Sanity? With the advent of AI tools, the gap has closed on the learning curve and missing docs I previously struggled with. Now I have no complaints and no pending issues with Sanity. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?Netlify is my preferred host service, so I appreciate that I can use Sanity as a CMS and still host my studio in a subdomain through a single-page web application.

The Headless CMS You've been looking for
What do you like best about Sanity?Unquestionably the best SaaS product in our stack. Continues to get better. What do you dislike about Sanity? One nitpick - I really don't like the way they've split the way to access studios (e.g. the main dashboard) and the way to manage projects and organizations (/manage). It seems like they've made a deliberate design choice to make the latter harder to access / less intuitive to find. The project / org management tools are still quite necessary, and so the result is unnecessary clicks / confusion. Other than that, nothing of note. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?The ability to define content architecture in code saves me a considerable amount of time. A clean and refined editorial experience also reduces the training and support that we have to do.

Simple and extensible for all your needs
What do you like best about Sanity?CMS foundation features have been consistent. They have been pushing new innovations on top of that that could interest new users. What do you dislike about Sanity?Continue to reduce dependencies on the library, but overall this has been the case. What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?Sanity solves our content data build approach. We no longer worry about the mechanics of building UI for a CMS, we now are able to focus on frontend of the experience with the content being well-formed for our usage.
