Vetstar has made it so much easier for histories to be reviewed. Thanks to Vetstar's 24/7 live support, there has never been a problem that couldn't be solved. The support their team always gives is incredible.
The single thing that Vetstar could improve is making it a bit easier to access certain records.
Try Vetstar! You will not regret it. Vetstar has changed the lives of so many people. Instead of wasting time gathering histories, they are at the tip of your fingers at all times.
Overall, Vetstar has been incredibly beneficial. Vetstar makes reviewing histories significantly easier. The only problem I have noticed while analyzing Vetstar is that it is sometimes difficult to view records as they are composed into individual files.
It keeps all medical records in one place.
It tends to be slow and sometimes you're at risk of losing your work if it's feeling temperamental that day. It's also difficult to navigate when you're first learning how to use it.
Vetstar is the record keeping system of the teaching hospital. It's beneficial to be able to have all of their records in one place.
As a house officer, I appreciated the fact that you would get a notification whenever new blood work or lab results were back.
It is very difficult to search for patients in the system, when you use a last name to search, the majority of the time the program freezes and you get the "red lightening bolt" of death. Additionally, the program crashing constantly, and most of the time, when it does, you lose all the paperwork you were working on.
I would frequently save your work as the system is known to crash intermittently. Also, if you lose your work, I recommend searching "versions" in the command line as you may be able to retrieve your lost discharge instructions.
I am able to keep records of my patients. I do like that you can email discharges to owners and referring DVMS through the program.
I like the ease of use. It is easy to find patients.
That it can be hard to find what you are looking for.
Being able to have all the information for a patient available in one place.

Once on a patient, the majority of the information is readily accessible. All patient medical records can be accessed from 1 screen, though each individual document has to be opened.
The commands and shortcuts are not intuitive and take a substantial amount of time to learn. You cannot display dual windows, making charting more difficult. The program frequently glitches, with documents openig without displaying any of the contents or erasing saved files, which then do no appear in the versions history.

I use Vetstar for reviewing and writing patient charts. Having all medical records in 1 location has made reviewing histories easier, however it would be much easier if the records could be viewed as a single file as opposed to indivual files.

I like that multiple pets are kept under the same account making it easier to find them.
The keystrokes are horrible. If you type in one think wrong You are unable to do much of anything if it malfunctions and freezes.
You need to spend a lot of time with the program to be able to troubleshoot.
The benefits are having a centralized area for lab work.

Gurpreet Kaur
Veterinarian, DVM was very helpful and thorough and was able to view my dog's vulva using the webcam to address the UTI. I was impressed that she reviewed ALL of the history and called in the medicine to treat this condition to my local pharmacy. In addition to this she provided me with recommendations for primary vet follow up as well as some helpful info about dietary supplements that could aid with preventative OBGYN canine health. It felt very comfortable and so did my dog Gracie.
I feel awkward when using a webcam but Dr. Kaur made me feel very comfortable anyway
