Effortless Tax Automation with Stellar Support

What do you like best about TaxJar?

I find TaxJar really easy to use, especially for reporting taxes quarterly. I love that it works well with our automated workflow and the API is easy to utilize. It's great that we're able to use the API to automatically calculate taxes and help validate addresses, which is huge for my gifting business. The initial setup was easy, and customer support was great to work with.

Easy to Use but Lacks Certain Features

What do you like best about TaxJar?

It is a very simple platform, the interface is user friendly, and allows you to get things done fairly fast. They are constantly updating it with new features, and they have easy to follow tutorials when you want to get things down by yourself. The interface is pretty easy to handle without much room for doubt or questions.

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

It does not allow for customization to the extent needed. Not all businesses are subject to the same sales tax rules in every states. They don't have options to exclude yourself from certain taxes like the B&O tax in WA when using their automatic filing system. Until recently you could not change if shipping was taxable or not based on your particular business situation.

Recommendations to others considering TaxJar?

They also don't fully integrate with Shopify, meaning they can take the information from Shopify, but they are not the ones calculating the sales tax at checkout, Shopify does, and Shopify does wrong a lot because they use zip codes instead of addresses. Also, when doing refunds, more often than not tax jar records them wrongly, so I have to download the file, fix it manually, and re upload it. Not very friendly. Also, the refund ID is different than the transaction ID which makes it harder to find the original transaction to then go to Shopify and see how the refund was done.

What problems is TaxJar solving and how is that benefiting you?

Their customer service is good but slow, too slow sometimes given that some things are tax sensitive.

Excellent sales tax solution

What do you like best about TaxJar?

TaxJar saves me literally 20 or more hours per month, and takes away all the headaches and hassles associated with tracking sales tax in multiple states (we have nexus in 27 states)

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

I honestly can't name any downsides. Avalara is the more commonly used system, but having used both extensively, I believe TaxJar is the better solution.

What problems is TaxJar solving and how is that benefiting you?

TaxJar syncs with all e-commerce sales platforms and your accounting system, and provides state-by-state sales tax reports according to your filing frequencies. It keeps track of what is due when, and for an additional fee it can even do the filings for you. Furthermore, it keeps up with any changes states make to sales tax (down to a county & city level), which are regular. If I were to manually prepare these reports it would take me over 20 hours per month, and there would be plenty of opportunity for human error, which TaxJar removes.

Great tool for a complex problem

What do you like best about TaxJar?

TaxJar is a great tool for a complex problem. I like that it's easy to setup and add multiple states as you grow. Customer support is decent.

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

I wish they created a way to store login information for the multiple state tax agencies.

Worry less software

What do you like best about TaxJar?

Generating all my reports making it easy to file taxes. Links to my website for easy integration and applying compliance when needed. Very friendly customer service and responsive. Tax Jar is amazing and does not give me the idea I need to look elsewhere for their service.

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

I don't have a downside at the moment. Very great service.

Compliance, generating reports, up to date with increases. Wonderful service.

My life has gotten easier

What do you like best about TaxJar?

TaxJar keeps me organized and helps me to make sense of sales tax which is so very complicated.

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

I don't like the fact that it's not easy to get customer support. I have to email my questions and get email responses.

TaxJar helps to track my sales tax so I know where I owe payments.

Works wonder for a small business

What do you like best about TaxJar?

We love that we can set it to only collects taxes only in the state we need it to.

What do you dislike about TaxJar?

The payment system for checking each order on our website could be revised a little but otherwise it works as intended!

What problems is TaxJar solving and how is that benefiting you?

TaxJar collects our state taxes with ease. It removes a lot of the headache of compiling monthly taxes ourselves.
