PremiumGuardHQ FAQs

What is PremiumGuardHQ?

PremiumGuardHQ is an options analytics platform and portfolio tracker built for one thing: the wheel strategy. Connect your brokerage account and it reads your actual fills, assembles them into complete wheel cycles, and reports the numbers that strategy turns on. Real cost basis after premium, premium yield, capital at risk by position, and how much income you can safely take out. It is a tracker and an analyst, not a trading platform.

What is the wheel strategy?

The wheel is an options income strategy. You sell a cash-secured put on a stock you would be happy to own. If it expires worthless you keep the premium and sell another. If you get assigned, you own the shares, and you start selling covered calls against them until the stock is called away. Then you start again. It is often described as a theta strategy, because most of the return comes from time decay on options you sold rather than from the stock moving.

Who is PremiumGuardHQ for?

Self-directed options traders running the wheel across one or more brokerage accounts, who treat collected premium as real income rather than a scorekeeping number. That ranges from people topping up a salary to people funding their living costs from their portfolio. If you sell cash-secured puts or covered calls regularly and you have ever wondered whether you are actually making money after assignments, you are who this is built for.

Which brokers does PremiumGuardHQ support?

Five. Charles Schwab and Interactive Brokers connect directly through their own read-only interfaces. Robinhood, Fidelity and tastytrade connect through SnapTrade. Any other broker can be brought in through CSV import, and the format is detected automatically. Broker sync is tiered: Schwab and Interactive Brokers sync on the free plan, the other three sync on Pro or during the 14-day trial, and CSV import is free for all five.

Do I have to enter my trades manually?

No, and that is the whole point. Most options trade journals ask you to type in or tag every trade, and the analysis quietly stops being true the week you fall behind. PremiumGuardHQ reads the fills from your broker and works out the cycles itself: which put started it, when assignment happened, every covered call written against the stock, and the day it was called away. Your books stay current whether you keep up or not.

How does PremiumGuardHQ work out my real cost basis?

It carries every premium the position has collected against the shares you hold. If you were assigned at $220 and have since collected $6.35 in premium selling covered calls, your real basis is $213.65, and that is the number your next strike should be written against, not the $220 your broker displays. This cost basis tracking runs across the whole cycle, so a roll or a partial fill three weeks ago is reflected rather than lost.

What is premium yield, and how do you measure it?

Premium yield is what your collected options income is actually earning against the money it took to earn it. PremiumGuardHQ measures premium against the capital genuinely committed to the position, including assigned shares and the cash securing open puts, rather than against account size. That is what makes it comparable between a put you sold last week and a wheel you have been running for eight months.

How do you know how much income I can safely withdraw?

It measures your closed profit against the equity target you set, then tells you what can come out without eroding the capital base that generates your options income. Most trade journals will tell you what you made. None of them answer the question that actually matters if you are living off premium, which is how much of it is genuinely yours to spend. This withdrawal planning is a Pro feature.

Does it handle covered calls as well as cash-secured puts?

Yes, and it links them. Selling covered calls against shares you were assigned on is not a separate trade in PremiumGuardHQ, it is the next leg of the same wheel cycle. That is why the numbers come out different from a generic options tracker: the put, the assignment, every call, and the eventual sale are treated as one continuous position with one running result.

What happens when I get assigned on a put?

The cycle continues rather than closing. PremiumGuardHQ records the assignment, carries the premium you already collected into the cost basis of the shares, and moves the position into its covered call phase. Nothing needs tagging on your side. This is the moment most spreadsheets and general trade journals go wrong, because they treat the assignment as a new, unrelated stock purchase.

Can I track more than one brokerage account?

Yes. Each brokerage account is tracked separately and you switch between them from the header, so a taxable account and a retirement account never get blended into one misleading number. You can mix connection types too, for example a Schwab account syncing automatically alongside an older account brought in by CSV.

Will it import my trading history, or only new trades?

It backfills. How far back depends on the broker: Interactive Brokers exposes the last 365 days through its Flex connection, and anything older comes in through Activity Statement CSVs, one file per year. Overlapping files are fine, because duplicate trades are detected and skipped automatically. The free plan shows your last 20 closed cycles; Pro keeps every cycle you have ever run.

What happens if a wheel ends at a loss?

If shares get called away below your basis and you rebuy the name, PremiumGuardHQ links the new wheel to the old one as a recovery chain carrying one true breakeven, so you always know how far from even you really are. Without that, each new cycle silently resets to zero and a losing name can look like a string of small wins. This is a Pro feature.

Can PremiumGuardHQ place trades or move money in my account?

No. Connections are read-only by design, trading permissions are never part of what the platform requests, and there is no order-placement capability anywhere in the product. It cannot buy, sell, roll, transfer, withdraw, or change a single account setting. Your capital never leaves your broker.

Do I have to give you my brokerage password?

No. Schwab connects over OAuth, Interactive Brokers uses a read-only token you generate yourself, and Robinhood, Fidelity and tastytrade connect through SnapTrade. In every case you authenticate with your broker, not with us. We never receive your username, password or two-factor code. Data is encrypted at rest and isolated per account.

How is this different from tracking the wheel in a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet is accurate right up until an assignment, a roll, a partial fill or a broker cost-basis adjustment lands, and then it is quietly wrong and you cannot tell when it started. PremiumGuardHQ rebuilds your whole history from your fills on every sync, so a correction from three weeks ago flows through everything downstream instead of sitting there. It also never forgets to update itself.

How is this different from a general options trade journal?

A journal is a record. This is options analytics built around one strategy. Because PremiumGuardHQ knows your trades form wheel cycles, it can answer questions a general tracker structurally cannot: what your equity result is net of assignments, what your premium yield is against committed capital, and how much income is safe to withdraw. A tool that treats every trade as standalone cannot compute those, because it does not know the trades are connected.

What does PremiumGuardHQ cost?

There is a free plan that never expires: Schwab and Interactive Brokers auto-sync, CSV import for any supported broker, open position tracking, live stock quotes, basic dashboard metrics, and a trade journal holding your last 20 closed cycles. Pro is $49 a month or $470 a year. New accounts get 14 days of full Pro access with no credit card, so you can connect any broker and see your real numbers before deciding.

Does PremiumGuardHQ recommend trades or give investment advice?

No. It reports on trades you have already made and shows you your own numbers. It does not tell you what to buy, which strike to sell, or when to roll, and it is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser or FINRA member. Options trading involves risk and past results do not guarantee future performance. What you do with the numbers is entirely your call.

What does PremiumGuardHQ not do?

It is not a trading platform, a screener, or a source of live options chains and greeks. There is no backtesting, no paper trading, no copy trading, and no signals. It does not tell you what to trade. It is a read-only analytics layer that sits on top of the trading you already do, and it is deliberately narrow: the wheel strategy, done properly, rather than everything done shallowly.
