Informatica powercenter has been a classic , it has been in the industry for around 30 years and still is very relavant to the point , provide every possible connector and provides best mapping tools.

the UI looks very old and sometimes it is very difficult to handle big big mappings as it needs lot of experience

Simple to use and simple to integrate

What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

It has got a good number of features to make your life easy. You can just drag and drop the components available and create a data pipeline without having to write code manually.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

It could have been made a lot more simpler and other informatica tools such as DSM would have been an inbuilt feature rather than having a different product itself.

What problems is Informatica PowerCenter solving and how is that benefiting you?

You could use this tools to store your data which is spread accross to a central databases using this tool. Mapping can be created easily to accomodate the several datatypes to make it a single column of certain dataype etc.

What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

User Interface is the best I like about Informatica PowerCenter., any new user can learn this tool in no time along with that the logs are very informative which helps in debugging any issues. Developers find the tool very easy to use with all the tools in their arsenal to transform data with minimum learning curve.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

There are times when the performance of informatica powercenter might not be best when compared to the underlined database., but I have observed in such cases the developers push the entire logic to a database for performance optimization.

What problems is Informatica PowerCenter solving and how is that benefiting you?

My team can transform data with all the inbuilt transformations available in the tool as per business needs to create an optimized data warehouse which helps our reporting team to create reports with ease. We can create world-class data warehouse with minimum effort using informatica powercenter.

Informatica PowerCentre is a good and easy tool for workflows

What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

It's easy to manage any workflow. For example if a workflow is failed then one can check the logs to the error of a particular workflow session. You can also easily rerun a workflow from the failed session.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

I don't like how I have to switch back and forth between Informatica manager and monitor to see the the order of the workflow sessions.

What problems is Informatica PowerCenter solving and how is that benefiting you?

It solves the problem of setting up a workflow that is made up of N number of tasks and can easily set up a pager for a workflow failure. It's also easy to troubleshoot a failed workflow in Informatica.

One of the best ETL Tool

What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

It is quite easy to use once you get a hang of it and has a bunch of features. although initially it is indeed a bit overwhelming with a lot of things and one can take months to get aware of most of the features(not all). Have the option of selecting different types of sources and targets and can integrate with other applications as well. Integration of different databases all under one roof is very nice.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

**Several times the error logs, when the session fails are not very intuitive and one has to dig deep in order to figure out where the problem is. There should maybe some kind of better documentation to help resolve issues.

Recommendations to others considering Informatica PowerCenter?

**Also, it's a bit pricey, I think, especially from the smaller firms' POV. So, if it wishes to in-future provide for the smaller firms as well, maybe a different kind of less expensive model would be great.

What problems is Informatica PowerCenter solving and how is that benefiting you?

**Also, sometimes the designer gets stuck, whenever I try to open some repository that might be having several sub-folders, it takes several minutes to just open one repository.

Informatica Powercenter is a fantastic tool to handle a large volume of data. We can easily monitor jobs in it. There are lots of transformation options available. There are lots of option to connect with different sources and targets.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

CLOBS and BLOBS datatypes are very complex to handle. Debugging the workflows could become hard sometimes. The User Interface could be improved to some extent. Test and Automation part also needs some improvement.

We are able to schedule the daily migration of large volumes of data in an effective manner. It also helps in optimizing the data for various reporting tools. It provides a very smooth platform for data migration.

Incredibly faster data integration and data replication tool

What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

I have been using this tool for more than two years for processing structured and semi-structured data into Teradata data warehouse. I have been involved in various Data Integration, Data Management, Data Migration using this, and I find the UI to be friendlier. It has a lot of components and functionalities that will help you to achieve almost everything related to transforming data.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

If you are processing less volume of records from ODBC, then it might lag its performance. Does not have much scheduling options for the workflows. Needs additional hardware while partitioning.

What problems is Informatica PowerCenter solving and how is that benefiting you?

Migrating data from different databases, transforming the data, loading the transformed data into various dimensional tables, layers, and loads. Migration rules, development of testing of code are very easy. Re-usability of various objects are helpful and its performance while handling large volume of data is unmatched.
