Honorlock is the best tool I have used to make testing is fair. It is non-invasive and leaves judgements about academic honesty up to instructors. If you are not cheating then you don't need to be worried about being flagged. Honorlock creates a level playing field for students with integrity. I appreciate knowing that students who care about learning have a fair advantage because those who would cheat to get ahead are thwarted.
There is nothing I dislike about Honorlock. I have used other proctoring software and this one is the best because it is non-invasive and it leaves judgments about academic honesty up to the instructor. However, it is true that faculty have to understand what video results mean to interpret what they are seeing accuratlely!
Our school is working to make sure testing is fair and an accurate measure of learning. Honorlock helps us to do that!
I like that it blocks all websites from students while taking exams .
I think the only thing that was difficult to use was the ID verification process. The camera has a hard time scanning it .

Honorlock takes the hassle out of having to verify student identity and monitor for academic integrity for faculty. The solution allows faculty to focus on what they do best, teach. The time savings reaped by faculty is appreciable, an estimated 8 1/2 hours per semester per course. That's nearly three weeks worth of class time returned to the faculty member to focus on instruction and student engagement rather than monitoring assessments or reviewing incident reports.

Adding integrity to online testing.
Before using Honorlock our institution used a live proctoring service. This required students to schedule testing in advance. In addition to this scheduling hassle, students also complained about the "invasiveness" of joining a video call with a live proctor. It was like inviting someone into their personal space that they did not know. Honorlock's automated proctoring is much more user-friendly. Students can take a test whenever it fits in their schedule without the need for advanced scheduling. Our institution piloted several proctoring systems that provided the ease of scheduling that we needed and recorded the testing sessions. However, what made Honorlock stand out above the others is that it provides so much more than just a recording. Honorlock's AI alerts Honorlock proctors to potential issues (people talking, other faces in the recording, the test-taker leaving, etc.) during the testing session. The Honorlock representative can then lock the testing session and pop in with a chat to rectify the situation. If needed they can also pop in via video, but in my experience, the issue can usually be solved via chat. I would also add that Honorlock personnel are always polite and respectful. Even when addressing issues during the testing session they avoid accusatory language. They are very respectful and helpful. This personal interaction helps protect the integrity of the exam session while not feeling invasive like a video call with a live proctor. All video recordings are flagged and time-stamped so the professor can easily see if there were any issues during the testing session and at what point they occurred. If Honorlock proctors had to pop in with a live chat during the testing session, all of that conversation is also included for the professor to review so they can follow up if needed.
Another wonderful aspect of Honorlock is their Search and Destroy feature. This functionality searches for test questions online and then generates a report grouping test questions into three groups. Compromised Questions are those that have been found online in places like Quizlet and with the click of a button you can authorize Honorlock to submit a takedown request to the websites that contain your test information. Commonly Found Items report questions that were found online but cannot be sent a takedown request. These typically are questions about facts or commonly known data and Honorlock suggests changing these questions. Honorlock also reports the questions that it could not find online as Unique Items. As an instructional designer, I love that this functionality not only guards the integrity of the test but also helps faculty develop higher-level thinking questions.
We love the personal and professional interaction that Honorlock provides for our students and all of the data that they report for our faculty!
The Admin dashboard is not as developed as I would like. However, our CSM sends out monthly reports and is always available and quick to respond to any questions that I may have.

Academic integrity is always a concern for educational institutions. Even in residence situations this is still a concern so no online proctor should be expected to guarantee that cheating will never happen. However, Honorlock does give us the needed data when a situation arises so that the faculty member and the Academic Integrity Committee can make a fair assessment of the situation and determine appropriate next steps.
I like the Disable New Tabs and Record Web Traffic features.
I had a hard time using the Record Student ID Card feature. I attempted to record my ID card multiple times and I had to reach out to customer support to get the ID card recorded.

Most professors use the system to prevent cheating during exams. It's a great way for professors to create exams in advance.
We have found that using Honorlock takes the stress of having to worry about students having major technical issues or poor customer support.
We don't like the current process for New Quizzes in Canvas. We look forward to not doing the third-party exams in the future - we hope!
Using Honorlock students don't have to wait days to take their first exam. That is a huge benefit to us and our students.
Our College switched from another proctoring company to Honorlock because of its accessibility accommodations, ability to plug right into an LMS, absence of someone staring at the student while they test, and because of all of the features faculty have at their disposal. I also appreciate the usage reports at the end of each month!
I wish there were a statistical dashboard I could access to run my own reports and data, but Kim gets me anything I need with a very fast turnaround time; I just wish I could manipulate the data myself.
Unlike our prior system, we have not had any complaints from faculty about this system at all. During COVID, it was our go-to way to test and since COVID, instructors are using it in their in-person classes to save lecture time and of course in their online courses. Some students have questioned security, but Kim was able to provide them comfort and responses very quickly. This was the best switch we made and I promote it to our other SUNY campuses.

The top-tier product, human-reviewed proctoring, can be seen by some as less effective than the full human proctoring offered by other services, but I believe that this service is a reasonable, effective equivalent.
I would like to be able to have a split contract with some AI only proctoring and some AI + Human Review proctoring, but that is not an option at this time.
