What do you like best?

The OCR accuracy is great and it's very easy to use.

What do you dislike?

The "text editing" area could be more flexible. Sometimes it's hard to get things looking the way you want as far as layout.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 for OCR in a very busy disability services office. Students benefit greatly from how quick and easy it is to use, and we can turn around accessible books much faster than with other products we've tried.

(Reviewed on 17 July 2020) "FineReader saves me a lot of time in extracting data and assembling documents"

What do you like best?

As an engineer I often need to extract data from tables found in books and even magazines. FineReader will accurately extract the data from a scan of the table, saving me a tremendous amount of time in putting them into an excel spreadsheet. Additionally, I write a lot of test protocols and reports that require assembling documents from word, excel and other formats. FineReader makes it very easy to do.

What do you dislike?

I don't really have anything I dislike. FineReader does what I need it to do and it makes it easy.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have had no problems with FineReader. The benefits for me are the extraction of data from scanned documents, as described above.

Few to zero downsides to this program. They've done a great job. Industry standard for a reason.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

For $200 I was able to scan in manuscripts and avoid typing them in again. Saved loads of time. Loads. Huge benefits to this.

(Reviewed on 07 November 2019) "Much better replacement for Adobe Acrobat DC"

What do you like best?

Best OCR (including excellent automatically inserted headings), enormous flexibiility to make all kinds of edits, and comparison of two pdf documents works much better than Acrobat's version. The printer function has many more options than most printer apps.

I greatly appreciate the one-time charge, compared to Acrobat DC's $15 per month charge.

What do you dislike?

Haven't figured out how to drag pages between two different pdf documents. Haven't found ability to program repetitive actions, as I am able to do in Acrobat to reverse collate pages in a document that is scanned back to front. I also think the user community is considerably smaller, such that Google searches for ways to solve problems are less helpful than with Acrobat -- compounded by the Help system being opaque. However, Acrobat's Help system is just as bad.

Also, external systems sometimes work better with Acrobat, which is what they are used to.

It is sometimes hard to locate an expected function, but this is inevitable with a complicated program, and Finereader is pretty good at putting things where they seem to belong.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Its the best, but perpare for a fairly steep learning curve.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Very usuable comparison of pdf files with changes is the biggest benefit for me, after the great OCR that is the original reason I got the program. I have lately been comparing 50 page printed PowerPoint files the are being edited by several people, and the comparison document does really well despite the graphic complexity of the typical PowerPoint printout.
