Open source tool makes it accessible to all the people. Simple and easy to use user interface. Easy to add users, configure notifications to mails. The application is available for web deployment and app is available for all major mobile operating systems. Easy to allocate storage user wise. You can login and add (or drag drop) files and share to any user present in the network. It just does have all features required for secure file sharing.

Nothing much actually you can download, deploy and use straight away for simple file transfer in a secured way.

It provides a secure way to share files required for for the team members working in a collaborative way to complete the project.

What I like best about ownCloud is its user-friendly interface and the ability to have full control over my personal cloud storage.

What I dislike about ownCloud is that the initial setup can be a bit complex for non-technical users, and it may require more technical knowledge to configure and maintain.

For example, using the free OwnCloud project, the user through the web browser interface can then perform: creating accounts with different user rights; adding, moving or deleting files in your storage; perform file access control, including distribution over the network; convenient web interface & support of mobile clients; API; streaming music; work with the calendar, contacts, bookmarks; possibility to create several hyperlinks on the flight, and even to the same files with different rights. Support of encryption & different protocols (webDAV, CalDav, sshfs etc.)

During the usage of this software at the different systems we have faced with the following issues:

for XFCE users on Linux mint we have seen periodical problems with Cyrillic symbols in folder names,

if this solution is used with VPN there are several potential issues, such as problem of synchronizing the contacts & calendars. When automatically synchronizing files to the cloud, I do not like the fact that every new directory with a file found is suggested to be added to the synchronization. You cannot ask one and no longer ask about others.

As it is a free solution - there is certainly not the same level of support as in the paid solutions)

Good solution if you have time and skills or a responsible person to maintain & support it.

We were managed to make a network file share server for the customers , partners and internal users. Our partners were able to get the newest versions of necessary files automatically distributed online. Our customers were able to share their documents in a quick & convenient way, and out customers obtained an addition source for getting necessary files.

ownCloud is very easy to use file-sharing and online data storage software. You can organize and setup folders however you want and give various people access accordingly, and if you wish not to have to host everything locally and only access the files online, that's also an option.

Sometimes it can take a little while for files to sync with other users, but this is normal for any file sharing program, and you need to make sure when significant changes have been made it might take a little while to sync up.

If you're looking for a tremendous file-sharing program to use with others, you can't go wrong with ownCloud.

As a podcaster I am able to share all the files I need, whether they be text or sound files, with my team on the other side of the world easily with ownCloud, and we stay in communication when changes are made and final version are ready for me to access.

Navigating, sharing, and managing data on both desktop and mobile is made easy with ownCloud's cutting-edge GUI. Setting up my 2TB NAS drive and configuring its partitions for work and personal use was a breeze. Given my past experience of losing all my data due to SSD failure, performing daily backups became a routine. With ownCloud, I can fulfill my backup and sharing needs without breaking the bank on yearly or monthly subscriptions. I'm also impressed with the upload speeds ownCloud achieves on my 2.5 gigabit Ethernet connection at home, which allows me to upload and share some of my favorite movies and series within mere seconds.

Although I'm generally satisfied with ownCloud, my only complaint is the time it takes to create a new user on the web application. This issue persists on both my office and home networks, and I don't believe it's a network-related problem on my end. Hopefully, a future update will address this matter.

After conducting online research, I discovered that ownCloud was the most highly regarded software compared to other alternatives. As a result, I decided to choose it.

It's easy to use and it works for what I need it for

Storage and sharing space

It provides a convenient way to create a private cloud with some interesting features like carddav and caldav.

Maintenance and a smooth installation of the software is not easy for people without technical background. It requires some knowledge on the functioning of the server (which might not be easy in a shared hosting).

Consider the time required to manage a self-owned-cloud.

My main driver was to setup a carddav server that would not need to rely on any third parties.

I also like the chance to have a small, private cloud to use with certain applications.

This is a great cloud storage platform. Our organization can easily log in to the website and browse our work files. Simple and powerful. Best cloud service for work. I highly recommend this.

We tried other file services to store our files, but some services do not support the file types we need to keep. We tested ownCloud, and it promotes multiple file types.
