OpenBOM is a product-centric manufacturing tool designed to meet the demands of digital habits and modern manufacturing by delivering a cloud multi-tenant BOM and inventory management technology. With this software, users can manage various aspects of product information, including catalogs, parts, bill of materials, and purchase planning. The application uses the latest technologies for the development of its products and to meet the needs of the customers. Bugs are fixed every month, and new versions are released with new features and capabilities. This user-friendly application maintains simplicity like Google spreadsheets. To speed up the communications and eliminate errors, the application allows multiple users to access and edit the BOMs and catalogs in real-time. The software provides a distributed repository to get comprehensive information about all catalogs and parts. Users can track and maintain BOM and inventory data for every part of the catalogs. One can even maintain all the revisions and changes made in the BOM in a history log. The software helps to increase visibility by previewing the image of the assemblies and parts in the BOM.

"OpenBOM with Fusion"

What do you like best?

The flexibility to configure the system to work the way we do. Having the ability to create my own fields and do calculations on the fields makes the system very powerful and flexible. There are few things that can't be done with a little work. While not critical, the thumbnail features is nice.

The company really listens to the customers and quickly implements functions and features that make the system better. They have added several features within the last few months to help with some unique use cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The integration with Fusion 360 can be a little challenging. This is less of an OpenBOM issue and more of a Fusion 360 issue. OpenBOM is making changes to workaround the limits of Fusion 360. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

OpenBOM is a powerful tool for creating and managing the BOM process. It takes a little bit of effort to setup, however once done it is very nice. The company is amazing and if you take the time to explain the problem, they are responsive if finding a solution. I wish Fusion 360 was as quick with update and changes as OpenBOM! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Integrating the 3D models created to Fusion 360 to create a BOM for ordering. We have reduced the number errors and steps required in the procurement process. Also, we now have one place the is the "truth" of the product, mainly the drawing. All other data easily connects to OpenBOM for management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy transfer of materials and objects from Fusion 360 to Open BOM"

What do you like best?

Automatic transfer of materials and data, and providing a clear understanding of whats included in the product you have designed. Also the ability to add visuals to provide a clear view of what the part looks like for the customer and user. Being able to directly import excel pages to further enhance the importance of the BOM. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Exporting as PDF, it would be nice to control if you want everything on a single or multiple pages. I wanted to include the pdf in a Indesign page, but could not fit all the parts on one exported pdf page spread. It would be nice to control the amount on a parts provided on a single exported pdf for easier or more controlled viewing. Also it would be a nice feature to control styles for exporting a viewing the spreadsheet in design specific presentations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Creating a solid bases of your parts on the 3D software first, then exporting it to open BOM provides a cleaner and easier transfer with little to no editing later. Using excel also in combined with open BOM is a easy way to transfer information on a custom made part. This lets you provide all the information needed about the part that doesn't exist anywhere else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Quick and easy transfer of BOM from cad to a spreadsheet. Listing all information from imported cad models, from online databases such as Mcmaster Carr. For presentations, open BOM provides a clearer and a more visually appealing list of parts. Calculates cost of tooling of parts and creates a online database to pull from for future products. "The end of EXCEL based bill of material"

What do you like best?

Ease of use across multiple CAD programs (i,e. SolidWorks and Onshape) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Repairing multiple circular reference found from files I inherited from a client. The files contain parts and assemblies with the same part numbers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The BOM I create from my CAD can be used bidirectional to update custom properties. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Good BOM management with outstanding customer support"

What do you like best?

OpenBOM offers a simple but very effective way to manage parts lists and BOMs. With Solidworks integration, BOMs can also be transferred very easily. After that, the data can be made available to the entire company with respective access restrictions. All at a price that I think is unbeatable. New functionality is added regularly.

The best about OpenBOM is customer support. I had never before got a service where I got an answer as quickly as with OpenBOM support. Despite the time difference, questions were answered within hours. For larger questions, a web meeting was called at short notice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The user interface looks a bit old. A modern rework would make it more visually appealing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

OpenBOM is really good at managing BOMs. A few PLM functions are missing which I would like to have, but OpenBOM is slowly growing and regularly implementing new (plm) features . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

BOM management was a mess with BOMs on different excel sheet on different computer for one assembly. With OpenBOM we got a uniform solution to manage BOMs. With OpenBOM we can add additional information to our BOMs without loosing work if the CAD structure changes, because OpenBOM can handle it with it's database. "BOM and inventory management affordable solution"

What do you like best?

Able to calculate material requirements as well as a per unit cost calculation without having to use excel, and with much more ease than using Excel. The endless BOM options can be used to maintain track of different configurations Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Slow to recalculate changes can take from 5 secs to having to reload the page.

Some tasks should be selected by default or automated as they are unchanged across tasks, such as the selection of the Quantity variable when adding to a catalog.

It does not allow changes in pricing history to be kept. It has to be entered as if it where a note.

The pricing of my materials changes every small purchase I make. There is no easy way to track the pricing changes back to a prior cost.

Would like additional inventory management functionality to better track nested sub-assemblies towards a final assembly piece. Allowing inventory of parts to feed the inventory of a finished assembly automatically. Currently I have to adjust inventory manually to keep track of subparts. I realize I am extending the functionality beyond its current scope. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Affordable and smart solution that provides information you can trust.

Its a superior alternative to Excel, which is more static and would not support easy changes to BOM structures without extensive reformulation and lost of which is the version you made the changes on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Cost of a BOM for production

Cost of a BOM for experimental ideation

Keep track of inventory

Fast access to cost information

Fast access to components used on a BOM

Images or photos of the items allow easier recognition of the part desired Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"OpenBOM has saved me hours of time"

What do you like best?

I am responsible for ordering all technology for new retail stores when open a new location. I have to ensure proper quantities are ordered and follow up with our purchasing team regularly. OpenBOM has streamlines this process and reduces my headache. Using OpenBOM, I have been able to reduce ordering an entire stores worth of internal IT (parts, servers, cameras, workstations, phones), from hours into minutes. The multi-level BOMs have enabled me to configure servers down the component level, then put those server BOMs into a "Server Room" BOM which will also contain individual switches and racks. I follow that up by putting my "Server Room" into my master/top tier BOM for a new Retail Store which would contain other store specific items that depend on layout/floorplan. Flattening my multi-level master BOM end exporting the list has made planning and ordering so much easier and accurate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I have had a few quirks with OpenBOM in Chrome requiring a refresh to resolve, I haven't tried Firefox yet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would recommend signing up for a trial of OpenBOM or purchasing a few months to learn the system and see if it can improve your workflow.

Creating a catalogue of parts may be time consuming, but making use of the CSV import feature can help speed the process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ordering hundreds of skus of product to deploy new Retail stores in a few simple steps. This has increase efficiency and accuracy in our process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very Happy w/ This Product"

What do you like best?

This software has streamlined our building/purchasing processes and helped keep our whole team on track and organized through multiple projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It can be a bit cumbersome to set up the various catalogs, views, and templates, but once set up it works well. I also wish the views were able to be shared across users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been able to use OpenBom to create a system where our Engineering team, Electrical team, Management, and Purchasing dept. can all add, update, and access the system simultaneously. Creating boms, tasks, orders, etc. It has been extremely helpful and useful to our organization, especially when we're creating boms and ordering items on multiple projects at the same time. "An Often Complicated Process...Simplified"

What do you like best?

As an Executive Administrator of a small company, keeping track of inventory, vendors, and parts not to mention creating BOMs and dealing with manufacturing, I can say that OpenBOM has been amazing to use. From it's deceivingly simple and efficient interface in handling what I need to keep track of and order to the company's amazing responsiveness, willingness to take suggestions and customer service!

As an individual, I have worked with various programs to handle our collective company's needs and can honestly say, I am impressed with OpenBOM for all the reasons I've mentioned, but have to share that as a company, OpenBOM's fees are not only reasonable, and fit within our budget, but also are unbelievable when comparing it to other programs we've used. As I said in my title for this review, OpenBOM has created a tool that has simplified an often complicated process, namely keeping a company efficient and productive.

What do you dislike?

There's not much to dislike, especially when you consider that if you do have an issue or would like something to be more customized to fit your needs...the company's responsiveness and customer service is unbelievably fast and courteous.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Problems we are solving are things like keeping track of inventory, creating BOMS, having a resource for everyone to go to see the catalogs created to keep our company organized - our Electrical Engineers don't have to sort through, for example the Mechanical Engineers things, to find answers to their questions on what they may need, we have on hand, and creating their BOMs.

The benefits? When you have a program that consolidates what your office needs in one location, you have an office that is more efficient, productive and not wasteful (in ordering things, for example, because they couldn't find it in the lab).

The ability of having a central live BOM that team member can use with vast flexibility

What do you dislike?

It wouldn't hurt to have an UI "look make-over"

it is very affordable.. just try it!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

Clean online interface. Also support is very hands on when I have problems.

What do you dislike?

Payment is handled through a secondary vendor. It was inconvenient to switch cards.

Uts been hard to find a platform that would scale to my size of bussiness.
