"Review for Micro Focus Silk Test"
What do you like best about OpenText Silk Test?

I like the way this tool helps in regression testing. It saves a lot of time for us.

What do you dislike about OpenText Silk Test?

I like all the features provided by Micro Focus skill test. Be it it's speed and quality. Be it continuous testing.

But I feel there is a minute learning curve to use this tool.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText Silk Test:

It helps great in doing regression testing which I am sure everyone needs to do before every major release.

What problems is OpenText Silk Test solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are doing regression testing via this tool. I liked it's speed & quality.

"Silk test is useful but requires expertise and maintainance"
What do you like best about OpenText Silk Test?

Tool is not very complex to use. Once the tool is setup you can start using it for your nightly test runs and reports. The tool supports multiple languages which is a good thing.

You can assign diffrent roles to the user so that no body can accidentally do things that they are not supposed to do. It allows easy management of what each user can do within the tool.

What do you dislike about OpenText Silk Test?

Setup is complex. You need a silk expert to do the initial setup.

Uploading the script is also painful. A slight mismatch and upload fails.

Help and Support is really poor. The online community for silk users are not lots hence good luck if you need to find some help.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText Silk Test:

There are better options available in the market than silk. Silk is not bad but since the support is poor i would not go with it. Check out if you have alternate options and if not it's ok to evaluate the tool.

What problems is OpenText Silk Test solving and how is that benefiting you?

I used Silk tests mainly for running smoke and regression testing on daily builds and share the health of the build to the team.

"Handy automation tool for beginners as well as experienced"
What do you like best about OpenText Silk Test?

It provides a very subtle and unique UI to get the tasks done. One of the most amazing feature it provides is the steps. The easy steps that we can add and prcoeed with our script step by step. Additionally it provides screen preview which is quite useful to proceed with automation quickly.

What do you dislike about OpenText Silk Test?

We should know some keywords to write the scrpts. At the basic level it is ok but it's a bit difficult as the script complexity increases.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText Silk Test:

Good automation tool for automating web apps.

Dedicated resources would be required who work on SIlkTest.

What problems is OpenText Silk Test solving and how is that benefiting you?

I have automated a cloud based application for one of the leading client of the cloud domain. The task was to automate the cloud portal application which ultimately was used to create VM machines. Hence, through automation the process was made easier from end to end.

"Systems testing using Silk"
What do you like best about OpenText Silk Test?

Easy to coordinate with other users, easy linkage of defects to steps in a process, ability to make live updates. One great thing about the tool is the ability to assign users to different roles, allowing easy management of what each user is able to access within the tool.

What do you dislike about OpenText Silk Test?

It is a very petty process to load scripts into the tool; characters & value must match completely and if there is one slight difference, the upload will fail. The tool also takes a lot of time to master, especially to configure the tool. Updating fields & values is also very petty and required some research and YouTube videos before being able to navigate the tool as a superuser.

What problems is OpenText Silk Test solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using Silk Test as a test management tool for Systems Integration Testing for an ERP implementation. All test scenarios are uploaded in the tool and then executed by users. As steps are executed, scenario status updates automatically and defects can be logged when a step fails. Main benefit has been extracting raw data from this tool to build out reporting dashboards in excel.

"Find Myself Frustrated Way Too Often"
What do you like best about OpenText Silk Test?

That it will work eventually after a long time of configuring and going through the painful debugging process.

What do you dislike about OpenText Silk Test?

Most of all, the lack of color coded syntax.

Also the lack of intent lines

Also the need for two script files for a test run

Also the useless debugging mode

Also the horrible lack of documentation

Recommendations to others considering OpenText Silk Test:

Check out your other options first.

What problems is OpenText Silk Test solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are trying to test UI functions in our software. Although I feel my job is more to find errors in SILK rather than in our program.
