Great Governance and Modeling, Steep Learning Curve
What do you like best about Looker? The best part about Looker is its centralized LookML semantic modeling layer, which creates a truly reliable single source of truth across the organization. By defining business logic, joins, and KPIs once in code with Git version control, a change to a metric in one file can cascade across every report, helping eliminate conflicting numbers between departments. That level of governance makes self-service analytics both safe and practical: business teams can slice and explore live data through an intuitive interface without writing SQL, while the direct in-database query architecture helps ensure dashboards reflect real-time warehouse data. What do you dislike about Looker? What I dislike most about Looker is that it can feel overly rigid and technically heavy for everyday work. The learning curve for LookML is quite steep, so you end up relying on data engineers to model new fields before business users can explore them. That leaves very little room for quick, on-the-fly ad hoc analysis when you just want to answer a question in the moment. The visualization options also feel fairly basic and inflexible compared with tools like Tableau, which is frustrating when you’re trying to build polished dashboards with a high level of customization. On top of that, since Looker queries the data warehouse live, complex dashboards with lots of tiles can load painfully slowly, and they can also drive up cloud compute costs if performance isn’t continually tuned. What problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?Looker addresses the core challenges of metric inconsistency, data silos, and analytics bottlenecks across an organization. By using LookML as a centralized modeling layer, it reduces conflicting KPI definitions by standardizing business logic in one place, so every team can work from a single source of truth. This helps the broader organization through safe, self-service exploration: non-technical stakeholders can drill into live data and build dashboards without writing SQL, while data analysts spend less time on repetitive ad-hoc requests and more time focusing on strategic insights. And because Looker queries the data warehouse directly in real time, leadership can make decisions using up-to-date, reliable numbers instead of relying on stale, static exports.

Powerful Insights with a Worthwhile Learning Curve
What do you like best about Looker?I use Looker mainly for data analysis and business intelligence. It helps me bring data from different sources into one place, create dashboards and reports, and track important metrics. I find it useful for turning large amounts of data into visual insights that are easier to understand and use for decision-making. I like the way it makes complex data easier to explore and understand, particularly the interactive dashboards and the ability to drill down into the numbers instead of just looking at a static report. The data modeling helps keep reporting consistent, which makes me more confident that everyone is working with the same definitions and metrics. The interactive dashboards let me quickly move from a high-level overview to the details behind a number, and data modeling keeps the definitions and calculations consistent, reducing a lot of manual reporting work. What do you dislike about Looker? One thing I think could be improved is the learning curve. Looker is powerful, but some of the more advanced features can take time to understand, especially for someone who isn’t very familiar with data modeling or BI tools. Building or modifying dashboards can also feel a little complicated at first. I’d like to see a more beginner-friendly interface, clearer guidance within the product, and more flexibility for quickly customizing visualizations without needing technical knowledge. I think Looker could be more user-friendly for people who are new to BI tools. Better in-product guidance and more straightforward dashboard customization would help a lot. I’d also like more drag-and-drop options for creating visualizations, along with clearer explanations when something in the data model needs attention. Faster dashboard loading and more flexible formatting options would make the overall experience smoother, especially when working with larger datasets. What problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?I use Looker for data analysis and business intelligence, solving the problem of data spread across sources. It centralizes data analysis, creates dashboards, tracks metrics, and reduces manual reports, saving time and ensuring consistent insights.

LookML centralizado y datos en tiempo real: definiciones consistentes para toda la organización
What do you like best about Looker? What I highlight most about Looker is its centralized data model with LookML, which allows defining metrics and business logic once so that everyone in the organization works with the same definitions, avoiding inconsistencies between reports. I also value that it queries data in real-time directly from the data warehouse (without the need to extract or duplicate data), and that the visualizations and dashboards are easy to share and embed in other applications. Additionally, by versioning the models with Git, it facilitates collaborative work and change control. What do you dislike about Looker? What I like least about Looker is the learning curve of LookML: learning its syntax and data modeling logic takes time, especially for users without prior experience in modeling or SQL. I also notice that the customization of visualizations is more limited compared to other BI tools, and that performance can be affected in complex queries over large volumes of data if the model is not well optimized. Additionally, being a 100% cloud-based tool and dependent on the data warehouse, any slowness in the underlying database directly impacts the experience within Looker. What problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?Looker helps us solve the problem of having inconsistent metrics between different teams, as it centralizes business definitions in a single model (LookML) that everyone consults equally. This eliminates the duplicated work of creating reports from scratch and reduces errors due to different interpretations of the same data. Additionally, by querying the data warehouse directly in real-time, we avoid manual data extraction and update processes, allowing us to make faster and more reliable decisions based on always up-to-date information.

What do you like best about Looker?I like the fact I can see very quickly where the students I'm scheduling is at whether it be there class, there ride times, there clinicals, or even important files they are missing that would make there uploads unacceptable. What do you dislike about Looker?the only downside I would say is sometimes it takes a while to load and gives me a white screen but I do not think that is a looker problem just either internet status or my computer going slowWhat problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?looker is solving the problem of having to manage 4 to 5 different apps or websites to get information from the schools students which takes lots of time, And Looker completely takes away the problem of having to look for this information for hours, Looker has everything I am looking for right there without having to be changing apps or websites all the data is right in front of my face and makes work so much better and work efficient.

What do you like best about Looker?Using integrated AI to review previous reports from Undelivered API calls, allows to make business decision based on the results. What do you dislike about Looker?Still the time to process large reports and TB of data is behind the market standard like Tableau. What problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?Querying large amounts of data stored previously, the way the data is presented is easily readable instead of simple web queries.

LookML Makes Self-Service Dashboards a Reality for Our Team
What do you like best about Looker? What I like best about Looker is how it lets our entire team explore data without needing to write SQL every time. The LookML layer is the real game-changer — once the data model is set up, business users can build their own dashboards and pull reports on their own, which has drastically reduced the number of ad-hoc request tickets coming to our analytics team. What do you dislike about Looker? Recommendations to others considering Looker? The reusable blocks and custom dimensions make it easy to maintain consistency across reports — everyone is looking at the same numbers calculated the same way, which has cut down on a lot of confusion during meetings. What problems is Looker solving and how is that benefiting you?
