A little scary at first because a lot can go wrong with encryption, but the setup is easy and the Boxcryptor client integrates very smoothly. Working with files is basically unnoticable and the service is free for one cloud account and two devices. The only thing better would be propper zero-knowledge encryption built into the cloud service, but they desperately want our data so that won't happen.Note 1: Keep a good unencrypted backup on an external drive or something in case things ever go wrong with your cloud provider or the encryption.Note 2: Any saved changes to files require those files to be fully uploaded so on slow connections and with bigger files expect sync delays. This will be most noticable with Dropbox and maybe OneDrive.

Thank you Boxcryptor for your good service, now i can sleep with out worrying that my data on the cloud is not encrypted.

Simply to annoying for me to use - the guide and tutorials was more or less useless - if the program was easy and had some "warnings" of the consequences of what would happen then it might be nice.

I installed the desktop app, it opens and 5-6 buttons appear, no menu, no settings, none with the description of what I wanted to do - secure a folder - I could encrypt a file and decrypt a folder. And some other options that did not look like something I would need

Looked around some guides. Right click on the file/folder.....
The right click encrypt folder thing/file was not presence. O

Some other useless thing - open as boxcrypter, then something weird happen - what the f473h was that.

Ok, finally found out that I could use the encrypt file in the app...Why didnt they write Encrypt file/folder in first place.... ok got it.

Then it took like forever to "encrypt" the files. THey could have warned that the actual encryption would take a half day if a lot stuff in the folder.
(actually not that much, but a bit)

Ok finally it was encrypted.

I have no idea what encryption is but expected some password protection for the folder - but no! They had actually encrypted/changed all the files.

So now I had both my normal folder and an " encrypted copy" of the folder and then dropbox of course started upload all the new encrypted files to dropbox.
That was gonna take all night....

I could not open anything in the encrypted folder - again looking for tutorials...... no help to find - i was supposed to be able to open the files.

I gave up for now
let the dropbox upload the new files all night, and try look at it again next day

Next day I could open files directly in the folder like some word documents - but not all files where happy - some files like XML files I store a lot password in got a "windows can not open this file"

Ok, that was it. I uninstalled boxcryptor and deleted the new encrypted folder.

I would like to use Boxcryptor, but I could not find any contact by any means, mail, webmail or anything regarding questions during installation: That was in may 2021,
Today 20230131 I got the message from "no-reply boxcryptor" that everything would be closed down. NO way to communicate. Lucky me did not install anything: This is not a serious treatment of customers.

Nasty company to deal with. Been a good customer paid my subscription and got a notice of termination.

Made to feel like some sort of criminal for no reason.

Shame I can’t include a screenshot of my emails from them here is a quote “we will not offer an extension of your license anymore.”

Spent £100’s for their encryption software only to be treated like this.

Abusive and uncalled for.

I hope you lose all of your customers.

If anyone wants encryption alternatives use veracrypt its free open source and more secure.

For 2 years they charge via Creditcard €36 for subscription I cancelled. Trying to get money back is impossible without the old boxcryptor account. Only option now is to totally cancel card and setup a new one! Very bad customer service!!!

Software mit großen NachteilenSoweit ich beurteilen kann, funktioniert die Grundfunktion - d.h., sie verschlüsselt. Die Verwaltung der verschlüsselten Dateien und Ordner und die Bedienung des Programms sind nicht sonderlich intuitiv. Nervig ist, dass bei jedem Update die persönlichen Einstellungen überschrieben werden. Leider scheint auch für zahlende Kunden keinerlei Kundenservice im Produkt inbegriffen zu sein. Ich habe mich in meinen Account eingeloggt und 30 Minuten versucht, dem Kundendienst eine Nachricht zu hinterlassen - erfolglos. Bestellnummer wurde nicht gefunden. Tja, keine Ahnung was falsch war. Die Nummer ist original aus dem Kundenkonto kopiert. Ich kann das aber leider auch nirgends klären. Bei Problemen sollte man also nicht mit Unterstützung des Unternehmens rechnen. Eine solche Software kann ich nicht gebrauchen. Ich habe mein Abonnement gekündigt.

Ich nutze den Boxcryptor schon einige Jahre, inzwischen bin ich sogar Business-Kunde und zahle den doppelten Preis.Auf dem Mac kann ich mich nicht beschweren, dort tut die App was sie soll. Das Cloud-Laufwerk ist verschlüsselt und Boxcryptor blendet ein virtuelles Laufwerk ein, das alle Dateien entschlüsselt anzeigt.Auf dem iPhone/iPad gibt es zwar eine App mit der man auf die Dokumente zugreifen kann, doch das kann man nur als Notlösung verstehen. Wirklich arbeiten möchte man damit nicht.Seit einigen Monaten wird die Spotlight-Suche nicht mehr unterstützt, damit verliert der Boxcryptor seinen Vorteil gegenüber der kostenlosen Cryptomator. Mit einem Update wurde die Spotlightsuche einfach deaktiviert und Boxcryptor war dies nur ein knapper Absatz im Release Letter wert. Seit dem herrscht zu dem Thema Funkstille. Ich rechne nicht mehr damit, dass Spotlight-Unterstützung jemals zurückkehrt.Als ich mich mit Problemen an den Service gewandt habe, da hat man mich nur vertröstet, erst die 3 Antwort enthiel einen Workaround. Auf meine letzte Anfrage kam seit zwei Wochen keine Antwort. Für einen Business-Support finde ich das enttäuschend!!!Früher habe ich Boxcryptor im Bekanntenkreis empfohlen, heute rate ich eher zu anderen Lösungen.
