Opitstruct is very easy to use solver and gives lot of options to solve complex engineering problems with accuracy. Help file of the solver has immense information and gives lot of in depth knowledge about the solver. Its robustness of solving problems on high performance computing clusters reduces solving time significantly. We use hypermesh as pre-processor and optistruct is the solver which is already integrated to it and thus allows us a smooth way to finish the work.
Optistruct has been significantly developed its capability with time. Sometime we face issues in solving highly non-linear implicit problems due to non-convergence of the model. Another challenge we face is in Modelling of non-linear spring elements and their behaviour .
Use it for structural engineering problems. It will certainly help .
We solve problems related to automotive structural engineering. We have worked on bus structures, fixture designs for automotive component and vehicle testing, vacuum tanks etc. We have carried out physical test co-relation activities also with the CAE results. Overall it reduces our time to come up with a solution .

Non linear analysis accuracy is less as compared with Abaqus.
Inertia relief analysis of same model was performed using Optistruct and Nastran, Result of Optistruct was showing very high stresses to that of Nastran.
Mostly, I do field failure correlation using optistruct.

I mainly use Optistruct for Linear and modal analysis of metal and composite structures. Composite materials are very easy to analyse through Optistruct solver.
Altair Optistruct is a very advance Non-linear solver with most user friendly help documents. They have a very pro-active support team who are always available to assist for any queries related to their software. Optistrut is a very user friendly tool for design optimization purpose.
More stability can be added in the solver to output proper error reporting in case of debugging the model.
