Powerful Hybrid Modeling, A Game-Changer for Design Firms
What do you like best about ZW3D?
I really like the unique Hybrid Modeling kernel in ZW3D. The ability to work with solids and surfaces simultaneously is a game-changer for me, as it makes modeling complex architectural geometries and organic shapes incredibly fluid. I appreciate the Data Exchange feature since it reads standard file formats like STEP, IGES, and CATIA better than software that costs twice as much, and the 'healing' function for imported geometry saves me hours of manual repair work. The licensing model is another aspect I value; moving to a perpetual license instead of a mandatory subscription has allowed me to invest more in my business hardware. Additionally, I found the initial setup of ZW3D to be very easy.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
While I love the hybrid modeling power of ZW3D, I have to be honest about where it struggles for my specific work at Zenkraft Design Studio and in my Water Resource Engineering projects. It is a mechanical engineering tool at heart, and you can definitely feel that when you try to use it for buildings or terrain. Here are the specific things that don't work as well for me: 1. No 'Smart' Architectural Elements (The Biggest Pain) In software like Revit or even AutoCAD Architecture, I can click 'Wall,' 'Door,' or 'Window,' and the software knows what those are. In ZW3D, those don't exist. I have to model a wall as a rectangular block and manually cut holes for windows. Impact on Zenkraft: It makes drafting standard floor plans much slower than dedicated architectural software. I can’t just 'stretch' a room and have the walls and hatch patterns update automatically. 2. Rendering is 'Engineering-Grade,' Not 'Client-Grade' For my thesis, the built-in rendering is fine. But for my interior design clients who expect photorealistic visuals, ZW3D falls short. The Limit: It doesn't have the atmospheric effects, soft lighting, or rich material libraries (like velvet, realistic grass, or water ripples) that tools like Lumion or V-Ray have. I almost always have to export my model to another program to get a picture that will sell the design. 3. It Lacks 'Civil' Intelligence As a water resource engineer, I miss the automation of Civil 3D. The Limit: If I’m modeling a canal or a dam, ZW3D treats the ground as just a 'dumb' surface. It doesn’t automatically calculate cut-and-fill volumes if I move a pipe, nor does it have smart grading tools that automatically slope the ground. I have to do those calculations manually or in Excel, then adjust the 3D model to match. 4. The 'BIM' Disconnect While it can open and save many formats, it is not a BIM (Building Information Modeling) tool. The Limit: I can model a beautiful facade, but I can't easily tag it with metadata (like 'Manufacturer,' 'Cost,' or 'Thermal Rating') and export a schedule for a contractor. It creates great geometry, but not smart construction data
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ZW3D for rapid drafting of residential and commercial spaces, drawing detailed interior elevations, creating technical drawings for electrical and plumbing plans, facade drafting, and converting PDFs to DWG lines.

Powerful File Translator That Handles Multiple Formats Efficiently
What do you like best about ZW3D?
Lifetime Solutions offers a powerful file translator. I find it effective for handling various file types and translating them efficiently. Efficient customer support.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
The gestures and hotkeys are different from what I was used to with my previous software. However, they can be adjusted in the settings. Need a proper training to onboard.
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
This software helps save on costs because it supports opening multiple file formats directly. There's no need to waste time converting files to a specific format before using them.

All-in-One 3D Solution with Outstanding Value and Versatility
What do you like best about ZW3D?
What's interesting is its all-in-one nature. You can do 3D design, simulation, and even CAM (the machining part) in the same tool, which is very convenient for saving time. File compatibility is excellent; it can open almost any format. As for the price, it's a serious alternative and much more affordable than the big software suites.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
The slightly disappointing thing is that the interface looks a bit outdated compared to its high-end competitors. When you're handling huge assemblies, the software can be a bit slow, and you really need a powerful machine. There's also a learning curve to be expected because there are so many options that you can quickly feel overwhelmed at first.
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
ZW3D solved the problem of having to pay for and manage multiple software programs for the same project. It allows me to manage the entire product lifecycle (from design to machining) in a single environment. The major advantage is that it greatly streamlines the workflow and saves us a lot of money on licenses without sacrificing essential features.

Efficient All-in-One CAD/CAM with Great Usability, Though Learning Curve Exists
What do you like best about ZW3D?
I appreciate how ZW3D brings together both CAD and CAM functionalities within a single platform, making the entire process of design and manufacturing much more efficient. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, and its support for multiple file formats greatly simplifies collaboration with others. Additionally, ZW3D performs well when working with large assemblies and intricate surfaces, which helps save significant time throughout product development.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
Some of the advanced features require a bit of time to master, and I feel the documentation could be more comprehensive, especially for those who are new to the software. At times, rendering performance tends to lag when working with particularly complex models. Additionally, the interface design would benefit from a slight update to better align with the look and feel of more modern CAD tools.
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
ZW3D allows me to manage both 3D modeling and manufacturing tasks within a single program, which means I no longer have to switch between different software. This all-in-one solution streamlines my workflow, saving time during product design and CNC programming. Additionally, it simplifies the process of editing models imported from other CAD systems and enhances collaboration on mechanical design projects.

Umfassende 3D-CAD/CAM-Software mit starkem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis
What do you like best about ZW3D?
ZW3D offers an excellent price-performance ratio with comprehensive features for both 3D modeling and CAM programming. Particularly impressive is the user-friendliness of the interface, which facilitates getting started, as well as the high flexibility that allows for complex constructions. The integration of CAD and CAM in one software saves time and ensures a smooth workflow.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
The user interface appears somewhat outdated in places and could be designed more modernly. Additionally, there are occasional performance issues with very complex assemblies, especially on less powerful hardware. The documentation could also be more detailed and structured to make advanced functions more accessible more quickly.
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
ZW3D solves the problem of efficiently integrating CAD and CAM processes in one software. By seamlessly combining these functions, we can significantly reduce design time and increase productivity. The ability to model complex assemblies while simultaneously creating manufacturing data saves time and costs in our development and production process.

Visualize initial design concepts
What do you like best about ZW3D?
Based on the price, ZW3D has a lot of additional functions, so it could be regarded as a good choice for amateurs or young companies. It was somewhat easy to navigate the software and a few of the tutorials helped to give me an overview of how to begin building simple models.
What do you dislike about ZW3D?
I always experience problems with handling self-intersecting faces and lack of proper geometry especially when dealing with organic shapes. This led to a major point being devoted to polishing the mesh in order to get to the next stages of the design phase.
What problems is ZW3D solving and how is that benefiting you?
ZW3D is a reasonable choice for simpler geometry or low fidelity design where high quality mesh is not a requirement. There are cheaper and similar software available out there, giving users a chance to get familiar with 3D modeling at a relatively low cost.
