i am a structural engineer with a mechanical background, and interested in physics. this software has been helpful in all domains imaginable, doing everything from plotting graphs to solving equations.

the original mathcad is more versatile but the look is outdated. the new mathcad prime seems to be not as powerful but looks more up to date.

as long as you know your math, mathcad will solve it for you!

i mostly do structural integrity stuff so shear, moment, deflection etc. this software has saved me thousands of hours in hand calculations, and i only started working 3 months ago!

This software is powerful, and beautiful. I like to use MathCAD as an engineering word document. Create organized explanations of your steps and solve calculations that would take pages by hand in one line.

Mathcad is most successful replacement for the piece of paper hand calculations. Great for communicating the calculations you make to your colleagues and design critiques.

I really like the simplicity of moving variables and the aesthetics that I can create with the sheets, and the simplicity of creating sheets and sharing or reusing to perform iterations of calculations. I spent the entire summer in MathCAD and feel like I've just barely scratched the surface of its capabilities.

One thing that drives me crazy about MathCAD is that I have not figured out how to make my variable flush/left-justified, making my sheets just slightly disheveled looking. We NEED a Mac version. Not sure if I want to run parallels.

I love that you can solve math problems easily using this product.

Sometimes the solve block feature doesn't work as well as you might hope. It sometimes doesn't like if one number is too close to another, and will not work properly unless the spacing is correct.

I would recommend that you either watch tutorials on how to use this product or talk with someone you know that has used it in the past. I learned how to use this product almost five years ago, and can still easily pick the software back up and use it again.

I have used this to do homework for physics and differential equations, and have used it to solve functions that have multiple variables.
