I like the bulletproof security and 256-bit AES encryption that Progress WS_FTP offers. The initial setup was very good and easy, which I really appreciate.

It is good, improve bugs.

I use Progress WS_FTP to solve file-sharing headaches in steel trading, thanks to its bulletproof security and 256-bit AES encryption.

Easy to set up and configure. Log viewer is easy to understand, and jailing a user to where they belong is easy!

Wish that there was a way in the product so that someone attempting to break in using a non existent user name would be blocked or shunned.

Killed off an unsecured FTP site running from IIS for a much more secure SFTP site. Due to the limitation above, I locked down the firewall to only those IP addresses I know of to further secure the site.

The simplicity of the user interface makes configuring connections a simple and easy task. Additionally, you can automate or manually transfer files with literally the click of a button. Another benefit to WS_FTP is the encryption level made available; thus allowing for secure FTP connections to external sources who require specific file encryption protocol.

There isn't much to dislike about WS_FTP after Progress completed their acquisition of Ipswitch, inc. A year or two ago, I would have a different opinion on this matter; but ever since Progress began 'manning the ship' ... the knowledge base and support is indefinitely better than years prior. For some the upfront cost of the WS_FTP Server is quite pricey, roughly $1800, but this may or may not be applicable depending on your business needs. The Client License / Free version seems to be suitable for many users.

The move to Progress WS_FTP Server was initiated by a company effort to consolidate our various connections to a single FTP client/software. We were using a variety of FTP clients due to specific protocol required by 3rd party connections. WS-FTP has allowed us to consolidate these connections to one FTP client/software' benefiting us greatly in cost and structural organization.

The user interface is clean and simple. It's very fast to connect and transfer files. It shows thumbnails of images stored in FTP servers, which is a very good feature. The email notification feature is also very useful.

The interface is too simple, this could be an issue for non-advanced users.

This is a very fast, reliable, and useful FTP tool. With this, you can connect with many kinds of servers, having vast support for servers using connection security and transfer cryptography. The backup feature is very fast and easy to set up. The connection stability is great. I was a long-time user of the personal edition and now I use the professional, and it will be very difficult to make me move to another tool.

I'm scheduling backups with the tool and using it to transfer files between FTP servers. It's very fast and never loses the connection.

- Connections are easy to set up

- Transaction/transfer log is very useful in IT setting

- Transfer side folder refresh is sometimes unpredictable; depending on server rules (like auto data warehousing/clearing after transfer), you may or may not see the file there. You can use the log, but still it would be nice to be able to control the behavior of the GUI on file drops (For instance, for clients who require a screenshot to confirm file deposit).

- Transferring secure files to client servers, in a non-Linux (i.e. Windows) environment. Speeds up the process so that I don’t have to transfer files to a Linux environment to be able to handle simple transfers.

Uploading documents is quick and easy. There doesn't seem to be any limit on how much data I can upload which is good because I never know how many documents may be issued.

You can only make a finite number of links before you have to start deleting older ones. There should be a way to archive these in case they are needed again at a later date.

I've been using this program for probably a good 15 years. I can't imagine running my website without it. I'm not a fan of the concept of editing files live on the server, like with some other programs, so I've always liked using FTP programs. I've used a few, but WS FTP Pro has always been my go-to for it.

Not much. I've run into a few errors over the years, but nothing that hasn't been fixed by Ipswitch. My biggest problem is when an updated file won't go through and I have to sit and wait a few minutes before it allows it.

I noticed they seem to be going in a cloud-based direction, but I prefer their older installable solution.

FTP access to the website I started and run. I love the easy access to the server and folders. I've also found it to be a great product to recommend to my staff who are all over the world.

That you can monitor the progress of each download, and see if there are any errors/stoppages in the downloading process.

It would be great if a download got hung up, if it would try and restart itself.

With the ability to download projects from our production lab, I have been able to start my projects in-office days earlier, rather than wait for CD's to arrive with our other items in the mail. This leads to faster turnaround time, and also more time to proof and review products before we send them out to clients.
