It is more complex to resolve if there is an lag issues between systems. Also if there is any network failure then the replication will get affected and the reporting database will provide the old data which has been captured before network failure from the prod database. Also the troubshootimg needs much knowledge about the Oracle components and with the help of the vendor support the troubleshloting can be dont for comples issues. Where sync is not happening for a long time. Else we need to do a full load which will again consume lot of time and effort.

For a huge remedy databse running reports over the production system creates more performance issues. I have been using Oracle GoldenGate since 2011, right 2 years after Oracle acquired the company. It was an awesome project back then with version 10, but Oracle has continued adding tonnes of features to it ever since and this is just the best replication solution i have worked with.

I have done all kinds of replication using Oracle GoldenGate. Be it homogeneous, heterogeneous, unidirectional, bidirectional, on premise , on cloud (Oracle Public Cloud), integrating with JMS (Java Messaging System), we have done it all. We have loved the product so much that we have over years replaced all our existing replication infrastructure using Oracle GoldenGate.

I love that you can perform changes in almost zero downtime, replicate millions of data in sub seconds and their is large online documentations and forums to help you with troubleshooting any problems.

This doesn't requires a lot of expertise to begin with and overtime, you will love working on it.

i don't like to sync when database is out of sync. We have to comment the tables in relication.

The best part about Golden gate is seamless replication. very easy to set up and configure. Works fast and gets all committed transactions to target database from source database. Saves time and money and reduces migration window to minimal downtime.

expensive license and happy that company pays for it. Also it is not as fast as dataguard, conflict resolution is complex

My dislikes really go in to the effect of the cost it bears to companies which is pricey. Though I can look how to use many features online. I found that many features have been added to which it can be very overwhelming. The earlier versions were very complex but I will say this version is much more user friendly

It can be used to support cross platform migrations not supported by Active Data Guard which is much cheaper. I also like that it requires zero downtime.
