Most helpful is anyone even without a dental background, could click around and find it to be easy to use and understand.
I wish notes and procedure codes were in 2 seperate although easy to access tabs. (like clear dent for example)
Scheduling, prescriptions, lab scripts, scanning, charting, the list goes on.
Makes it easy to communicate with patients and keep up with information, records and account information!
I honestly don't have any dislikes. We have yet to run into any issues that gave me the impression to dislike Open Dental.
Open dental is solving the problem of us not having to manually calculate balances, keeping up with recall reminders and dates, organizing personal information and keeping track of employee time sheets as well.
Very easy to use. Allows you to have multiple insurance fee schedules listed and appoint them to each specific patient so you have no write-offs. You are allowed to leave notes on the patient's chart and their health history and for payments and missed appointments. Submitting claims is simple and controlling the time clock for employees is nice. I prefer this software more than Dentrix.
The only thing I wish they could do (and they might actually be able to and I don't know how) is how to look up in bulk available days for appointments. I can only look up day by day, which isn't a problem, but sometimes it is nice to see bulk availability at one time.
It is better than using paper. It makes scheduling and re-scheduling fast and easy for the patients.

Easy, time-efficient, allow us to access the schedule on every computer and each staff member can leave their notes as we are paperless. This sounds very simple but were things we did not have with our previous program MOGO.
There is no start up cost for open dental software. Very reasonable monthly fee. It also works with a variety of other softwares such as different xray programs.
Compared to dentrix, sometimes it's more difficult to input existing dental restorations as well as treatment planning new procedures.
Practice management software is pretty much essential for any dental office.
Really intuitive and easy to use, very easy to train the team on, great customer service.
The user interface is a little outdated.
It integrates with a bunch of 3rd party software that helps manage the practice better.
This platform is overall extremely easy to use and user-friendly, but by far the best thing about Open Dental is the customer service. If you ever need guidance on how to do anything in Open Dental there is an easy chat tool where you can reach a live representative who can walk you through absolutely anything. The text chat is best for me but if you prefer to talk to someone on a live phone call, you can also call and they will walk you through anything that you need. They are also able to screen share if you are still needing help. The customer service has always been fast, efficient, and friendly. 10 stars for that!
There has not been much to dislike with Open Dental for me. Occasionally, I have ran into situations where, I wish it was like this or that instead but there are so many features available that are customizable. If you have anything that you dislike or want to change, simply reach out to the support team and they can usually help.
I recommend reading some reviews of actual users because working in the dental industry, we have many networking events and we always ask each other which software system each other are using. Open Dental is popular with employees and there is always someone commenting that they used to use it and miss it but their new office is using something different now. There are tutorial videos that you can find online. If you still have questions, give the support team a call and you will be blown away at their efficiency and willingness to help as I have been in the past!
Open Dental is a well known company and widely used platform. Because of that, all of our other platforms that we use can automatically integrate into our software system. For example, our merchant works with Open Dental so that our credit card payments automatically connect. This is helpful because then there is no more scrambling at the end of the day to figure out why your accounts don't balance. Having the systems integrate saves that extra step which eliminates room for error. Additionally, it saves time so we can focus on what is important: our patients.
Open Dental is so easy and simple to use. They layout is far superior to anything else.
I wish it were easier (cheaper) to customize a report.
I would highly highly recommend Open Dental! I have already got a few of my dental colleagues to switch over to Open Dental. I really believe in the software and what they have to offer. I really like how open the software is to customization and changes. It is easy to customize it to fit my specific practice. I love to keep organized, so Open Dental is perfect for that. I used to use Dentrix, and switched over to Open Dental a few years ago. I also opened another practice location and was able to start from scratch with Open Dental. I really like that all modules are in one screen...meaning that you click on one patient and everything in open dental changes to their information.
Open Dental is laid out so simple and easy. It was designed by a dentist, so I love that it is how a dentist actually thinks! I have realized that open dental allows me to maintain an organized schedule. It also increases efficiency.
Simple, easy to use interface. Easy to schedule new patients and look up procedures by description or abbreviation or code.
No option to print a daily report for each day with itemized transaction amounts and patients who cancelled that need to be reminded to schedule
Make sure to add the verify insurance automatically with subscription.

If I were to pick a downside, it would be the time it takes to customize all the many features. Though in the end it is well worth the time and efforts to get the program set up!
Opendental allows for efficient and easy use. The issue we had prior had limited ability to customize the program to fit our daily use better. Having that ability, allows us to work efficiently.
