. Handling Mind-Bogglingly Large Files

If you try to open a massive city-scale 3D model or a 50-kilometer highway layout in standard CAD software, your computer will likely freeze, stutter, or crash. MicroStation’s core engine is built to handle practically infinite file sizes and thousands of reference files simultaneously without breaking a sweat. It manages system memory incredibly efficiently, keeping your workspace smooth even with gigabytes of data open.

Steep Learning Curve: The command logic is counterintuitive (like left-clicking blank space to "accept" an action), making it incredibly frustrating to learn if you are used to AutoCAD or SketchUp.

Clunky Interface: A messy mix of modern ribbons and outdated, nested dialog boxes that look like Windows 95.

I like MicroStation's well-designed, user-friendly interface. It is customized for Architecture and Engineering and it's really intuitive and easy to use, which helps me review drawings, models and provide solutions in way less time than without the software.

Certain solutions could be easier to find. Making symbols and icons easier to read and at the same time getting rid of some dropdown menus would help.

I use MicroStation to tackle design and structural challenges, at the same time I use it to review drawings or models in order to achieve solutions much quicker.

Best things about MicroStation:

Great interoperability – Opens DWG, PDF, IFC, GIS without much hassle.

when working with more advanced or larger projects across departments, it allowed us to create work loads for sending out to other engineering agencies

the pricing model was less than Autocad but since we only had a handful of agencies that used microstation modeling software, it was excessive to us for maintaining.

we had some very large projects that was being done and a couple of the vendors used microstation so we needed to be able to export or import into microstation to send them documentation.

Integration with other softwares and file size is good with Microstation also Bentley's support always available if there is any complexity they help to provide resolutions . I personally recommend it for Steel structure models and Drawings as it handle them pretty good.

UI need to be improved as it seems very complex for beginners. It's also very difficult to learn because the features they provided doesn't work like other CAD /BIM softwares

This software is bit confusing and difficult to use.

Also it is very time consuming software. Without software Training difficult to learn and implimate.

Microstation is a drafting tool of Bentley Systems mainly very useful for survey work. It can integrate with the GIS data in the survey work.It is a high performance tool for the users of infrastructure segments.

Although it is a drafting tool but cad users often found it difficult to use due to its unfamiliar interface. Since the features available in common cad tools are different here.

Mainly in survey work. Mostly with the GIS survey & earthwork calculation. Then general drafting to do the alignment. Also it is helping in topographic survey.

Havent found any that can not be solved or worked around without too much time consumption

I use MicroStation to generate real-world 3D components without crushing PC resources. I like its cross-platform compatibility and ability to utilize older formats, aiding quick integration in designs and generating multi-discipline designs.
