Thanks to the Arduino community worldwide, the "abstraction" entered into the embedded devices, and ARM's mbed OS solution brings this principle with conventional hardware/software solutions we've been using as Watchdogs, timers, power modules, etc. I will likely use it in all ARM solutions I'll be working on.
It wasn't well introduced to the community. Most people still don't know anything about it. On the other hand, Linux Foundation's project Zephyr RTOS uses the idea that mbed created and adds it an RTOS. I see that people are going into that direction. mbedOS needs better marketing.
