Number 1--it works. Number 2 - it is free. Number 3 - it allows you to save the logs, export them, and review off-line
Not much to dislike--one feature that would be nice to have is the ability to switch to other networks that are in your profile. An example is on my home network, I have a Guest network that would be good to login through the app and check the traffic without having to change my wifi connection.
I am able to look for devices that are connecting that shouldn't. Also can correlate with other WiFi management systems to shut those connections and/or change how they connect to create some efficiency with my network traffic.
The IP Scanner from Spiceworks helps to make network management easy. It scans your network and gives you a list of devices. The tool also has the ability to enable additional protocols so that you can even remotely management some devices in some cases.
The initial setup is rather cumbersome. After the product has been set up though, it works great!
Network management is extremely easy with the IP Scanner. The Spiceworks tool is a lot better than having to track everything manually.
It's an incredibly simple cloud based software with a thin client to install on a PC or multiple PC's.
The client does not obtain a lot of information from non-pc devices.
We have installed the client on all of our windows based fleet of laptops. It gives us up to date information on installed applications, hard disk space and more.
The tool is very vibrant and provides an extremely powerful scan and is quite hands-on when it comes to discovering new assets
Love the scan tool - just don't care for how much it uses local resources and bandwidth when running. It is a memory hog
Great tool - just be mindful of resource use
Finding assets and devices on network. The auto discovery feature and OS tracking and definitive results tool is handy
It is a very useful tool that allows you to scan a local network and visualize the devices that are in it
Sometimes it does not read all the devices and you have to redo the execution of the tool to be able to visualize them
Be able to quickly locate the devices that are required to solve a problem
Easy to install and set up. I currently use the Help Desk and I am deploying this to learn more about my network
It cost a little bit. If you search, there are other free “like” software, but they do not provide the detailed information that IP Scanner provides.
Keeping track of all my Static IP addresses and the Mac addresses associated with them.
with IP scanner, we can see what is on our network and what might be giving us issues
sometimes there are false positives, we see things that are duplicated and old on our network
being able to see what is on our network to see what IP's are free and taken
Easy to use, gives accurate results, scans subnets fairly quickly.
Commercialization by Solarwinds makes the download / install overly cumbersome needing to login/signup/etc.
Scanning IP ranges / subnets for devices and shoring up documentation.
It's easy to get started and does pickup most items quickly. The inventory uses background machine level communication to identify manufacturer and device time in most instances. will require more complex and network-level access to see servers and PC in many cases if domain managed
it doesn't manage change will. if you replace a machine or remove and rea add to a different location, it may cause duplicates.

Wish it had better integration with Spiceworks.
It's too easy NOT to use. It has been super helpful in tracking down rogue devices and otherwise identifying what's on my network.
