It provides interfaces with all major frameworks of python like tensorflow, pytorch. You can create your notebooks and interact with the data and performs all sorts of machine learning tasks on it. One more powerful thing is that it integrates well with google VMs.

One of the major drawback I felt with google datalab is that, it is sometimes very unstable with VPN setting. This makes the notebook kernel disconnect and one have to connect to kernel all over again.

So we use for analysing high volume data. Data in volumes of 100 GBs. So we store the data on google datalab and then interface with it through jupyter notebooks on google VMs. And this same data can be accessed from multiple VMs, so it becomes super easy to manage the data.

With Google Cloud Datalab, it is easy to do all functions of ETL ( Extract, Transform or Load ) with the data available. We can easily visualize or build data models with the data set available.

The tool is not very much user-friendly. Even though it provides most of the functionality, all must be done with multiple steps. No direct functions.

Documentation for tool is not enough.
