Great platform for faster and reliable codespaces.
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod provides very fast VMs for using our codespaces on very end machines. It has allmost all of our Git platforms to connect and start coding with them. It has many code editors to launch their high end codespaces on them for our development. It also supports browser version of code editors to directly code through any browser and from anywhere we want.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
Its charges a bit high for limited time of VMs usage.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gitpod has provided very high end VMs for our coding, which helps us launch very resource intensive code editors on any browser. It easily connects with all of our git providers, which helps us keep our code updated and managed from anywhere. It has all the code editors we want to code on, which makes our overall development process very simpler and easier.

Inconsistent development environments Elevate Your Development Workflow with Gitpod: A Game-Changer for Efficiency and Collaboration
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod transforms our development workflow, making onboarding a breeze, enabling secure data access for BYOD setups without the need for a VPN, and enforcing best practices. Most importantly, it turbocharges engineer efficiency. Our engineers can be productive and deploy to production from day one and don't lose time with inconsistent environments. As a result, I (platform engineer) don't have to offer as much support, this having more focus time myself.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
Recommendations to others considering Gitpod?
The initial dedicated SAAS setup, was up and running in no time. And the support we receive troughout the process has been tremendous.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am an intelij user and setting up the integration wasn't as easy as it was for VS code.

Easy to set up, happy engineers and excellent support
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod allows engineers to focus as much of their time as possible on delivering business value. With Gitpod, engineers don't have to worry about installing tools and can start coding right away. Gitpod workspaces boot up in seconds, run in the cloud (right next to your data) and thus also give you the power of cloud machines. Big enterprises typically don't gave very good engineering laptops, which is also solved by using a Cloud IDE such as Gitpod.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
Recommendations to others considering Gitpod?
As an internal developer platform team, it allows us to onboard new engineers much faster than before. Where in the past people had to go through 20 documentation pages with all the tools that needed to be installed, this can now be provided by the platform team as a script in the .gitpod.yml configuration file.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
In general you see that the market is still quite young for cloud IDEs and that you can't use all the features of Jetbrain products yet. Next to that, plugins on the marketplace sometimes don't work.

The only cloud development platform worth exploring
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod is the simplest way to ensure that all development environments are at parity and have no differences.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
Recommendations to others considering Gitpod?
Gitpod is almost beautifully fast. It's instantaneous to startup and cheap to build out on your own. The custom Dockerfile ensures that endlessly complex development setups can be built into the Gitpod systems.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
The configurations system ensures that plugins which are notorious for having compatibility issues can be transferred across setups with relatively little pain

Gitpod disguised as git features in IDE
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod is an extension used in Visual Studio Code & Web browsers.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
All the basic features available in GIT are easily accessible in IDE.
Recommendations to others considering Gitpod?
No need to switch between GIT UI & IDE while any commit is done in GIT.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not much to be disliked about this extension.

Super easy environment to develop, test, and run scripts
What do you like best about Gitpod?
It takes a few seconds to spin up a clean, customized dev server/environment that I can access from anywhere in my browser. Uses VScode for the browser-based IDE, which is great. Runs on top of GitHub.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
There have been a few bugs (eg Python environments not auto-running pip install requirements) but they haven't been anything I couldn't work around. No other problems, really.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to almost instantly setup a clean environment complete with browser-based IDE, dev server, and needed software. Saves a lot of time and hassle, especially since I tend to work on a number of small projects at once.

Any code on Github or another SCM system can be loaded into a Gitpod workspace, worked upon and committed, with builds taking seconds rather than hours Feature rich, inventive in browser IDE
What do you like best about Gitpod?
I can set up and start working on almost any codebase hosted on a git platform within minutes, without having to worry about the RAM that IDEs like VS Code or IntelliJ gobble up. It has the same integration support as provided by the local IDEs. By just adding a prefix, I can create a gitpod workspace for any github repo. It also leaves the workspaces open for a considerable period, meaning that I don't have to worry about losing uncommitted changes.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
Java support is limited on Gitpod. I cannot switch IDEs - it is either VS Code or IntelliJ, for all repos associated with a user. Build scripts are often hard to tweak when buggy
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
In absence of a RAM rich laptop, Gitpod ensures that it utilizes the speed of cloud servers to provide cloud IDE services, thereby greatly speeding up the development process.

Best open source developer platform for remote development
What do you like best about Gitpod?
I am using gitpod from last one year and its Best open source developer platform for remote development. If you have already worked with VS Code, Gitpod will be very familiar to you. It has all the power of VS Code from your browser, connects seamlessly to your repository and you can test your code with its CI system. A nice feature is being able to do code reviews directly from the IDE.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
If your gitpod is in ideal condition for more than 5mins it automatically stops the workspace. That is no exact disadvantage but on ther alternatives this functionality is rare.
Recommendations to others considering Gitpod?
I am using gitpod to work on client given tasks in their repository.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its kind of client vm. Because we dont need to install any sofware or any tool to use client repository or to work on their repository.

Code just about anywhere with Gitpod
What do you like best about Gitpod?
Gitpod provides a cloud developer environment to run most kinds of web applications on the browser without worrying about the infrastructure. Gitpod can also be highly customised and comes with an IDE. There are powerful machines provided by Gitpod and with most necessary tools preinstalled. The environment creation time is quick and very cost effective. Gitpod also allows to save environment in case it is customised and is required to be persisted. Gitpod can also be integrated with local Visual Studio Code, allowing to work on the local IDE but with a remote environment.
What do you dislike about Gitpod?
The lack of stateful environments is an inconvinience at times i.e, you will need to install gloabl dependencies each time your environment times out even though it is not deleted. The terminal behaves abnormally at times. It would be great to see workspaces from another git provider when logged in from a git provider i.e, we cannot see workspaces from GitLab when logged in through GitHub, makes it inconvinient to switch accounts frequently. Gitpod lacks Windows environment, making it futile for Windows based web applications.
What problems is Gitpod solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gitpod solved issues with local development environments by spinning up new environments for each application. Gitpod's team feature allows better collaboration with teammates and increased productivity due to not having to debug environment issues.
