Easy to use, and simple. I am able to do what I need to do as an higher education professional.

Sometimes I did get error codes, however I think it has more to deal with the school network and connectivity (VPN) since I use this software as I work from home.

Enrollment, grades, registrations.

There are two Ellucian SIS products: Banner, and Colleague. Colleague is touted as the smaller, cheaper option for smaller schools. Banner is the full-fledged SIS with all the bells and whistles. They have pretty decent documentation, "action line" support, and a forums community. Join your local "Banner Users Group" as well for more resources. Ethos is going to be great for integration but at this time there's not enough stuff using it, and not enough customizability there. Anything you want - Ellucian has, but you need to make sure you set it up right the first time. Go for the training, consultants, all that. They know how to work their product the best.

If you're transitioning from one SIS to another, there's no such thing as an easy implementation - it will be a nightmare to transfer all of your stuff. Because it is it's own "beast", it will require extensive training. They're pushing everyone to SaaS which would be fine if you're already moving from one place to another, but if you've been on prem or hosted, it is not a good idea to move to SaaS. Also, their support sucks. You'll find great agents in individual departments but as a whole, they are so silo'd and as soon as a problem isn't specific to that one domain, well, you're going to have issues because they'll throw your ticket back and forth to different departments and point the finger at everyone else.

Ellucian's SIS is pretty much the backbone of the operation - without it, we wouldn't have any student information, course information, grades, etc...

I most like how easy it is for me to check grades on SIS, along with seeing how far along I am in my degree and distributional requirements. The ability for me to see my progress is just great!

I strongly dislike the UI. It seems like a lot of parts of SIS are redundant, and it seems super outdated, as if the platform was built for an interface from 2005.

Make sure that you're comfortable with the UI of the product!

I am able to see important things like grades, progress in my major, the distributional requirements I still need to fill, see my financial aid, order caps and gowns, just a lot of things that involve moving around student data.

Streamlined features that help improve classroom flow.

When we initially where doing trial ones during summer 2 sessions there was a lot of lag and malware issues. They've since been fixed and addressed I might add.

Just do it, make the switch

A better digital classroom structure, that can handle the day to day of an entire campus worth of use.

For registration, advisors are able to register students without difficulty of any prerequisite errors.

For data entry, many departments are able to enter all necessary information with ease.

For financial aid, the process of awarding students is streamlined and easy to utilize.

I use Ellucian Banner on a daily basis, as I utilize the system for most of my data entry in the Financial Aid office. One of items I dislike is probably that it times out every 30 minutes or so. Also, maybe on some screens, am unable to use the F6 to insert a new line. Other than that, it’s a great system.

Ellucian provides a very robust product that is customizable.

In my opinion, Ellucian products have a large learning curve, although recent upgrades are starting to correct that.

As mentioned, this is a a very robust product that really stands in the gaps.

Many community colleges use Ellucian Banner for their Student Information System, which means we can access support easily. For the purposes of student records, Ellucian does a good job.

There is a learning curve for new users of Ellucian Banner. Once you learn how to use it, however, it's not hard. There are limitations when it comes to Ellucian communicating data with other software platforms.

We keep all our student records in Ellucian, so it is a data solution. The fact that it is cloud-based is a huge benefit, that enables us to connect to Ellucian through remote access.
