AutoVue makes generating and saving document markup easy for sharing with other users. We can customize the interface with simple text-based configuration files so that setup on new computers is as easy as copying and pasting.

Setting the configuration options without customer support is probably the most challenging part of AutoVue. Inheriting the management of AutoVue without an active service agreement is not a fun time.

We use AutoVue to record notes for process-checking aids on our design documents. AutoVue can be configured to look at a network-shared folder for markup files. When a document is opened, any markup files that match that document are automatically pulled up as possible overlays for that file. We do not need to spend time looking for markup files. Each markup contains metadata on the user station that created for traceability.

AutoVue is very glitchy. It sometimes works to open documents but usually not.
