Easy to use, many configurations/options to edit settings and powerful visual graphics of the 3D infra model.

Requires a powerful graphics card for the visuals.

You can integrate 3D models and objects from different tools (Revit, Civil 3D, sketch up, etc) into one 3D model that shows the infrastructure, building and landscaping items. The visuals are great for capturing video or photo and present to project stakeholders for a better understanding of the overall scope.

Infraworks provides a good starting point to develop site models for visualization projects.

Integration with Revit could be improved. Currently, its not possible to directly connect topography from infraworks with a toposurface in Revit.

Having an understanding of world coordinate and state plane coordinate systems is important. Also you should be comfortable with Civil 3D.

Infraworks allows me to easily generate textured 3d topography for visualization, before survey data is available.

Very easy to use and get started. It provides a great starting point for design and site layout. It can also provide an extensive background for existing context.

The interface can take a little getting used to. It can be a challenge to export the elements you need and keep the model organized.

Give it a try, It doesn’t take long to get going.

It’s mainly used to get base terrain and existing site information. It’s important to know roughly what the topography is looking like and what challenges we may face with site layout and design. It also provides a good visual representation for client presentations.

One of the things that I like the most about Infraworks is that it is very user friendly. The learning curve to Implement this software is considerably shorter than many of the other softwares that Autodesk has to offer. Another thing that is really high on my list is the interoperability between softwares. Being able to bring in many files from different sources is key as we are not guaranteed to be on the same platform across the board in a project.

The main thing that I would say is lacking in the software is a library of components. While it is simple to go into Autodesk Formit and create some massing shapes to accommodate what you are trying to portray. If there was a more robust Library right out of the box I think that it would get more people up and running considerably faster.

Make sure that you have a clear direction for your Implementation and rollout based upon the required scope. Only take it as far as you need to take it. There a lot of great things with this software and it is easy to go down a rabbit hole that you do not need to and therefore spending more time and money then you need to.

As we all know, people these days are especially visual. Being able to take our project to the next level by showing the Site Layout and Plan in 3D, gives the project team as well as the owners better insight into how the site itself is going to operate. Along with allowing a clearer picture for the owners and the project team, this allows us to evaluate our plans and even optimize the site anywhere that is possible.

I am using Autodesk InfraWorks 360 from 2016, its combine GIS/BIM platform for Preliminary design and Construction project, where one can create the Proposed Site Model for Resedential,Highway design, port planning etc, in no time,, ITs very flexible software to integrate any type of Site data, building models and utilites data from various sources in spatial refrence , to view in 3D dimensions and aslo top create Scenic presentation for client reviews , before the project is to be built.

Anything i dislike about this is detailed analysis , but i hope Autodesk is adding that feature too in Future , to become a single modeling and detailed design softwares for Civil Engineering projects.

Especially in Highway and Residential project, it provide very smoth workflow more Insightful and easily to create civil Engineering design, When come to pre Disaster Management i solved an emergency shelter identification problem using differnet terrain analysis By Infraworks.

I love how easy it is to bring together terrain models with basemaps and add content for visualizations. East interface with Civil 3D and Revit. Also use it to bring in Sketch-Up models.

It can be slow with large data sets. Wish that SHP support was a little more solid.

Easy project visualizations.

Ease of use. Streamlined interface. I have been visualizations/animations for years and InfraWorks has made that process of creating 3D content for marketing and design so much easier.

More advanced grading tools. Ability to create custom road striping within the InfraWorks instead of the workarounds that are done with outside softwares.

Again I am completely satisfied with InfraWorks and the direction that Autodesk is going with it. I know Autodesk is listening to the industry and trying to develop the tools that we want and need to take our content to the next level.

Marketing, Conceptual Design, Design/Engineering, and Quantities. Ability to give better design/engineering information during the planning/project pursuit phases of a project.

I like the ease of use. InfraWorks is very easy to use and very easy to learn. Now you even have the ability to do about 40% of your design work in a 3D environment.

Some of the visualization is not very realistic. There are some tweaks to get animation in InfraWorks, but other than that, it's a static environment.

I highly recommend this software. There are plenty of resources to get you going and stay on the right path.

I work for an Autodesk Reseller, so I'm not really solving any business problems for myself. Only customers.

Easily and quickly gather data for a project using Model Explorer and create realistic visual presentations. Now that the modules are all included, designers can create preliminary designs within minutes compared to hours using traditional design software.

I disliked having to install all the separate modules, but now that they are incorporated, there isn't much to dislike. The user environment is easy to navigate and exporting to Civil 3D is simple.

Be prepared to be blown away!

Transportation, commercial and residential designs are being conceptually planned and designed currently. The benefits are efficiently creating 3D models of a conceptual design within minutes, exporting to C3D and finalizing the design. With the robust tools inside Infraworks 360, more being added monthly, I see the program as the next solution for all preliminary planning, design, point cloud recognition and presentation design.

Overall I like the ease of use. I started this software from basically nothing, and learned as I went. I have no formal AutoCAD or 3D training. (I am a GIS Professional). I have been using InfraWorks since its infancy. I was given a license and told to come up with a model within a few weeks. I found the interface intelligent, and it was simple to learn the basics. From here I have branched out and done multiple complicated models, and people seem so love the aspect of being able to see something come to life before the project is underway/completed.

My biggest gripe about InfraWorks is the database upgrades. Every release comes with one, and it you have a model that you work on between upgrades, you need to make a copy (these models can get HUGE!!!). I have also been burned by an upgrade; I had a model upgrade, and I lost all of my 3D models from Sketchup, a few of my road profiles were gone, and most of my styles had disappeared. I am hoping I don't need to use that specific model again, as I will have to overhaul it completely.

If you are looking for a software to showcase projects, look no further. You will easily be able to show off your projects before it even breaks ground!

This software really helps with our public outreach. When working on a large or even controversial project, showing the end user final results early on can ease minds and tensions. I have used this to build a majority of my local city out and used it to showcase flood protection projects. I have built many smaller models as well showing simple things such as ponds and new streets.
