"Its great!"

What do you like best?

Its great for portfolio management, business intelligence, and its a very agile tool. Data is retained well in the software and can be easily found. It is web based service so you can essentially access it from anywhere.

What do you dislike?

Lacks intuitiveness, so basically its not very user friendly and you kind of have to know it to use it. Formatting the text is also not always easy.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I think its good and it will work, you just have to take some time and familiarize yourself.

"Version One experiences user"

What do you like best?

Although incredibly complex, the interface is simple. You can use parts of the system happily, even if you don't need all the parts.

Drag and drop are cool features.

What do you dislike?

If you get too many projects in the XML hierarchy, it slows down. It would also be better if they did not call them projects, but something more generic, since, projects are a bit antithetical to agile.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

We evaluated Rally and CA as options. And then, evaluated them again, 5 years into implementation. Still like Version One.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have 200+ agile teams that use Version One to run their scrum teams. We also use it to track cross-team and cross-project tasks and teams.

"Excellent project tracking and management tool"

What do you like best?

VersionOne provides a holistic view of an IT project, and fits right in with Agile development. Compared to TFS for .NET projects, it is at par or better in almost all respects.

What do you dislike?

Inconsistent customer service was an issue once or twice, but could have just been a bad day.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was working on a software product and phone app for Lutron Electronics that helped end the user control wireless shades at the touch of a button. VersionOne enables me to manage software bugs, project deadlines, and end user feedback on an interconnected and robust framework.

"VersionOne - AGILE MADE EASIER & All-in-One Agile Lifecycle Management"

What do you like best?

VersionOne is an all in one agile project management platform that supports alignment between all three levels of enterprise agile project management (Portfolio, Program, and Team). Built from the ground up to support agile software development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, SAFe® and hybrid, VersionOne's suite of right-sized product editions help companies scale agile faster, easier, and smarter.

Leverage a single system for planning and tracking all of your epics, stories, themes, defects, tasks, tests and issues. VersionOne gives you unparalleled visibility across multiple teams, projects and agile portfolios, providing a centralized environment where all your stakeholders – executives, managers, product owners, developers, and testers - can easily work together regardless of location.

Basically, it help you streamline the scrum process by allowing you to input your values into templates that are set up for you. Once these values have been inputted, they automatically create charts, including the burn-down chart, for you. These software tools were made to make your life easier by giving you a structure to work with and doing the scrum basics for you.

What do you dislike?

Pitfalls of Scrum Software Tools

The main problem with V1 is that it is not a specific scrum tool. It tries to fit into a variety of niches, which could cause your teams to have some problem using the tool. If you do plan on using this tool, you will probably need a scrum trainer to teach your team how to adequately use this software. Finally, the templates that V1 uses are of a different type than are generally used in the industry.

Besides the obvious glitches listed above, there are additional problems with using software tools.

1. The team spirit can fall by the wayside. Software tools can cause your teams to stop communicating. Since a particular team member is simply inputting his/her own work into the computer system, they may just focus on their own tasks and stop sharing with the rest of the group.

2. Software tools can break down. While it's true that whiteboards can accidentally be erased, whole software systems can break down on a dime. If you need a particular tool and it stops working, you could be ,to quote a cliché, up the creek without a paddle. What if it's the software administrator's day off or he/she is on a cruise to Africa? It could be quite a long time before you can get back to work.

A software tool could be a time suck. You could waste nearly half of your sprint trying to fix your tool as opposed to completing your main project. So, you should be careful when deciding to adopt a particular scrum software tool. The old whiteboard and sticky may still be your best bet.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Most people who practice scrum use some rather low-tech methods: whiteboards, stickies or notepads. And, there's nothing wrong with these methods. On the market, however, are several software tools meant to make your life easier. Version One is one of the popular tool.

Basically, both versions help you streamline the scrum process by allowing you to input your values into templates that are set up for you. Once these values have been inputted, they automatically create charts, including the burn-down chart, for you. These software tools were made to make your life easier by giving you a structure to work with and doing the scrum basics for you.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We can keep track of your work with the taskboard function. You can also manage your backlog. Plus, you can create your own electronic whiteboard for your sprints.

Basically, it help usstreamline the scrum process by allowing us to input our project values into templates that are set up for our team. Once these values have been inputted, they automatically create charts, including the burn-down chart, for us. These software tools were made to make our life easier by giving us a structure to work with and doing the scrum basics for us.

CollabNet VersionOne is exceptional

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

CollabNet VersionOne is widely used in our business by various business units. The problem that business units face without VersionOne are;
1. Multiple duplications of work
2. Project work tracking can be inaccurate.

Using this application enables real-time collaboration of multiple teams, Overview of project or backlog items, sprint by sprint analysis. These are critical metric data points that can help future workload distribution, resource allocation, and overall future project estimations. As a leader, this application gives me access to all my teams' work and progress. It is also useful when collecting metrics that help stakeholders in project increment planning.

Pros and Cons

  • Automated saving of changes, no records can be lost because all items are saved in real-time.
  • The watch function, optional but beneficial when managing multiple teams or projects.
Edit
  • An optional presentation mode could be good for multi-site
  • Built-in snipping tool

Likelihood to Recommend

CollabNet VersionOne is suitable for ongoing projects that are developed by agile teams in an agile manner. It works well for small feature teams that use kanban or sprints for the working style and project management solutions.
